Mastodon Tour With Dethklok, Converge, High on Fire

Everybody throw your skull-shaped bongs up in the air! Mastodon Tour With Dethklok, Converge, High on Fire

Atlanta crust-metal overlords Mastodon will they tour across North America this fall with two comparably heavy bands in tow: Boston hardcore warriors Converge and thundering Bay Area power trio High on Fire.

A tour featuring these three bands would probably be the underground metal must-see show of the year just by itself. But the band that pushes this particular trek into sheer what-the-fuck euphoria is Mastodon's co-headliner: Dethklok, the fictional cartoon band that stars in the Cartoon Network's stoner-beloved Adult Swim show "Metalocalypse". Get ready for total fucking pandemonium.

Before this one jumps off, though, Mastodon have a few summer festival dates left on the itinerary, as well as a pair of headlining shows in Mexico. All dates below.

News in Brief: Bruce Springsteen, Goodie Mob, Space, Philip Jeck

-- If you were smart enough to buy tickets to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's September 20 show at Chicago's United Center, you are one lucky bastard. Decider reports that the Boss will use that show to perform the 1975 album Born to Run-- arguably the best album he's ever made-- in its entirety. No other Born to Run shows have been announced yet.

-- In other absolutely rad one-off show news, Rolling Stone reports that all four members of the legendary Atlanta rap group Goodie Mob will reunite for a September 19 show at Atlanta's Masquerade. Other Dungeon Family members will also make appearances, so cross your fingers for Big Boi and Andre.

-- Spinner reports that Andy Parle, former drummer for underrated Britpop journeymen Space, died suddenly in Liverpool on Saturday night in an incident that local police are calling "unexplained". He was 42.

-- This month, English experimental music label Touch launches the Tapeworm, a cassette-only label. The first two Tapeworm releases, both limited editions of 250, will be an audio recording of French theorist Jean Baudrillard's 1987 work Le Xerox et l'Infini and British ambient composer Philip Jeck's EP Spool.

Raekwon Unveils Insane Album Art

Wow, Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx... Pt. II just keeps getting better. Aside from the fact that it actually looks like it's coming out on September 8 after years of delays, the record is due to include plenty of Ghostface, along with the shockingly good new track "House of Flying Daggers", which features Ghost, Inspectah Deck, and Method Man.

Now, thanks to Raekwon's Twitter, we get a look at some of the album's artwork-- yep, that's it right up there-- and it's utterly bonkers. Looks like Rae had to be subdued, King Kong-style, after ripping the head off of the Statue of Liberty and generally laying waste to most of Times Square. (Ironically, one of the few buildings not totally demolished is the Virgin Megastore...which closed earlier this year.) If they made a movie based on this image, I would pay to see it.

Back in March, we reported on a whispered-about music video  for the Modest Mouse song "King Rat", directed by Heath Ledger. Now we know: the video does indeed exist and it'll premiere on MySpace tomorrow.

According to a press release, the animated clip is a visual plea against "the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place off the coast of Australia." While the clip was "fully conceived" by Ledger, it was unfinished when he passed away in January 2008. After Ledger's death, the film and music company the Masses, which counted Ledger as a member, finished the video with support from Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock.

Proceeds from the video's iTunes sales will benefit non-profit Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Get ready for some filigrees, Europeans! St. Vincent to Open for Grizzly Bear

Ed Droste's Twitter: It's not all Twitpics of pho! Sometimes the Grizzly Bear frontman takes to his microblogging feed to drop some crucial nuggets of information on us. Like this: St. Vincent will open the Grizz's forthcoming European tour. You will hear a whole lot of meticulously arranged, vaguely proggy indie rock at those shows.

Of course, Grizzly Bear and St. Vincent both dropped much-loved (and BNMed) albums this year, and both of them will be plenty busy before their joint tour kicks off on Halloween at London's Barbican Hall. (That London show is the one where Grizzly Bear will perform with the London Symphony Orchestra. Droste himself told us about it here.) Grizzly Bear hit the road with Beach House and St. Vincent tours with Andrew Bird in early fall.

The Decemberists didn't whip Pete Seeger into an axe-wielding rage when they plugged in their electric guitars at last weekend's Newport Folk Festival. They did, however, debut a couple of new songs. Those dismayed with the Portland crew's recent turn toward prog-rock bloat, take heart; they're back on that literate sea-shanty tip.

Frontman Colin Meloy introduces one jam as the band's "attempt at a copper-mining song about Butte, Montana." The other song, "Down by the Water", is unfortunately not a PJ Harvey cover. It does, however, feature Meloy tootling away at harmonica, which is a new development.

NPR Music streamed the show, and an enterprising computer wizard posted a pair of OK-sounding rips on YouTube. You Ain't No Picasso has mp3s of both songs. (You Ain't No Picasso calls the copper-mining song "Rox in a Box".) You can hear three more songs from the Decemberists' Newport set over at the NPR Music site.

After "Daniel" and "Pearl's Dream", Bat for Lashes mastermind Natasha Khan returns with the third dreamy video from her year-end contender Two Suns. From what I can tell: Khan infiltrates a futuristic carpenter's lair to find a secret red triangle that makes her paper boyfriend/guardian turn into plastic. Hey, nobody said dreams are supposed to make perfect sense, right?
