Everton are out of the Carling Cup, after they were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham last night.
Goals from Robbie Keane and Tom Huddlestone saw off the threat of David Moyes’ injury-stricken team.
The game was the third the Blues had played in six days, and David Moyes was so infuriated by the decision to play the game, he refused to conduct his usual media dealings at full time.
The Blues were without as many as ten first team players for the trip to White Hart Lane, and things got worse when Louis Saha limped off with a calf injury at half time.
Moyes was however, able to call on the services of Johnny Heitinga, Tim Cahill, and Yakubu.
Tottenham were also missing a number of first team players including: Jonathan Woodgate, Aaron Lennon, Peter Crouch, Ledley King, Luka Modric, as well as having top scorer Jermain Defoe suspended.
But Harry Redknapp’s side made light of their absences, and went 1-0 up after 31 minutes.
David Bentley, enjoying a rare start under Redknapp, played an inch-perfect corss to Huddlestone at the back post, and the midfielder lashed the ball past Tim Howard with his left foot.
After the re-start, Cahill almost gave Everton an equaliser, but his top-corner bound effort was clawed away by Heurelho Gomes.
Keane could have made it two minutes later, but he opted to square for Roman Pavlychenko who was thwarted by make shift left back Tony Hibbert’s last-ditch tackle.
Keane eventually made it two on 57 minutes. Sylvain Distin upended the former Liverpool man in the area, and Keane’s resulting penalty was well saved by Howard.
Unfortunately for the American, Keane reacted first amongst chaos in the area, to grab the second.
Everton have now lost their last three games, conceding ten goals in the process.
