OAKLAND - Caltrans District 4 has closed both directions of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to repair a crossbar and two rods.

Carpooling

Carpooling is a smart choice. One advantage is that you can drive in the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes. Most carpool lanes (HOV) require a minimum of two persons per vehicle, but some lanes require three persons. Another advantage is free toll on state owned bridges during commute hours.

  • Talk to your co-workers, friends and neighbors about forming carpools.
  • Use the many Park and Ride lots located adjacent to freeways to meet up with other carpoolers.

Operations

Caltrans will fully deploy all field personnel to monitor traffic conditions and adjust traffic control measures to help alleviate congestion where possible.

  • HOV lanes PDF: High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane hours of operation are posted on freeways where there are HOV lanes. People sharing rides means less vehicles on the road which results in reduced volumes of traffic and smoother commutes.
  • Changeable message signs and highway advisory radios are activated in the bay area, Stockton and Sacramento areas.
