Russians sweep swimming marathon in Russia

Russian athletes dominated the 17th International Swimming Marathon held in the Alanya district of the western city of Antalya.

The marathon events on famous Cleopatra Beach saw Russian swimmers sweeping up almost every division. Lubov Volkova of Russia won the women’s division in the 5-kilometer race and was followed by fellow Russians Dasha Kostovara and Svetlana Uskakova.

In the men’s 18 to 39 age division, Russian Dimitry Polyanskiy finished in first place, only to be followed by Ukrainian duo Alexander Bezugly and Denylo Sopunou. Russians completed the podium sweep in the men’s over-40 division, with Dimitry Dordulya, Andrey Cherdyntsev and Igor Andeev placing first, second and third respectively. In the +50 division, Russian Alexander Antipov was first, Ron Evans of England was second and Dutch Pim Van De Wege was third. Finally, in the over-60 age group, Antoliy Shakmatov of Russia won over Ukrainian Volodymyr Pryhodko.
