Webster's Weekly

For nearly 20 years, I have been calling the play by play excitement of professional wrestling matches held all over the country and all over the world.

With thousands of matches and hundreds of interviews conducted by yours truly, there is nothing like the independent wrestling scene.

You can't beat the loyal fan base of the independent scene either.  Fans who cheer and jeer their favorites, while  supporting NWA Wrestling On Fire.

Webster's Weekly August 2nd -8th

Hello again from behind the mic as we take yet another look at what's going on in and around NWA On Fire.  Or, after the explosive bombshell that Sonny Roselli has dropped on us, is it ICW On Fire?  Or, is it just plain old ICW?  Well, it can't be plain old ICW because there was NOTHING plain about Kevin Sullivan and The Tonga Kid brawling all over the Expo in Portland and out to the cold, snowy street way back when!  Nor was there anything plain about the Wild Samoans making their ICW debut and sending fans scattering out of the way.  And, who could ever forget the touching moment when Bob Backlund received a cardboard replica from a 9 year old fan just before his match with the Unpredictable Johnny Rodz in Methuen, Massachusetts?  These are just a few of the ICW memories that have remained with me for so long.  I could sit and chat for hours about International Championship Wrestling and what it has meant to me over the years.  But, we've got plenty of business at hand, so let's get right to it.

Speaking of the Sonny Roselli/NWA On Fire/ICW drama that is unfolding, many of us are wondering what it means to the future of the company.  Nobody seems to know much beyond Sonny's announcement that he is now working for the ICW and that they sent him to Portland, Maine last week to compete for the NWA On Fire promotion as the masked Double X.  This could all just be a way for Sonny to get back into the NWA On Fire ring wars and it's all a rouse.  Or, perhaps there is something brewing that we'll all eventually find out about.  All I can say is stay tuned!  As you know, anything and everything can happen around here.

Hats off to Max Bauer who not only had the guts to sign on to face the 7 foot 2 Giant Pharoah, but also has the skills and strength to stay toe-to-toe with the big man.  The Giant was taken to his limits in their first encounter.  I believe when the two meet again for a no-disqualification bout, we will not only be entertained but we will see another edge-of-your-seat battle between two of NWA On Fire's best.

Remember that old adage, "See a penny, pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck"? NOT true.  Mr. Backlund placed a penny on the broadcast desk recently. I picked it up and got a painful slap to the back of the head.  Apparently, Mr. Backlund was saving that penny for something special.

We're looking forward to our live event debut in Middletown Connecticut in September.  How fitting is it that we'll be slamming and jamming at a place called "Wild Bill's"?

I had a chance to catch up with an old friend this past week.  Former NWA World Tag Team Champion, Knuckles Nelson and I had a great conversation about the state of wrestling today, his run as one of the most dominating forces in NWA wrestling and what he's doing now that he is no longer a part of the every day rigors of the ring.  Long retired from the squared circle, Nelson enjoys a quiet life with his family.  I am happy to be able to call him one of my true friends.

That's it for this week.  There's lots of great information and entertainment when you visit the many sections of NWAOnFire.com.
