Exclusive: Cardiff City set to sign Motherwell striker

CARDIFF City are close to completing the signing of Motherwell striker Chris Porter for £425,000.

The 25-year-old, who scored 18 goals last season in the Scottish Premier League, is due to have a medical with the Bluebirds today and hopefully finalise personal terms.

Porter had attracted the attention of Hearts and Nottingham Forest as well, having found the net nine times in 21 games for 'Well this season.

He signed with the Scottish club on a free transfer from Oldham Athletic 18 months ago having netted 31 times in 66 games for the Latics.

It is another raid north of the border by Cardiff boss Dave Jones - though Porter is not Scottish, hailing from Wigan.

Well manager Mark McGhee confirmed that a bid had been accepted from the Coca-Cola Championship side.

He told BBC Scotland: "We have received a bid from Cardiff for Chris and it is now up to the lad to decide if he wants to go."

Porter has scored nine goals for Motherwell this season and attracted interest from a number of clubs including Scottish Premier League rivals Hearts.
