Dream a little dream(fall) for me

February 27th, 2009

Have I used this headline before? I must have. My imagination runs in perpetual circles and my memory is shit. I come around to the same conclusions and phrases repeatedly, thinking, hmm, that’s not bad, that’s new, but NO it isn’t NEW, it’s the same bloody headline I used two years ago.

Anyway. The dream of Dreamfall is very much alive, and it’s more than a dream. A lot of people – a lot of people – have asked about the status of Dreamfall Chapters. Not everyone checks the archives, which I would encourage. As I’ve said before, when there’s news you’ll be the first to know. Honestly. It’ll land right on top of this page and it will stay there a good while. To read whatever there is to read on Dreamfall Chapters, just click the little Dreamfall category link. That will point you in the right direction and provide you with whatever information is available. Nothing is omitted. It’s all there.

But I guess it’s time for an update regardless, so here it is:

Possibly the last time Dreamfall gets released anywhere in the world, ever (except maybe in the Congo)

July 22nd, 2008

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is now (and has been for about a week or so) available on the Xbox 360 (the preferred console of true game connoisseurs, don’t you know?) in all territories (except the UK) as an Xbox Original, via the Xbox Live Marketplace (downloadable content rocks).

So why not the UK? It has to do with ratings, and since we’re in no position to go through the ratings process all over again – it’s a pretty harrowing and time-consuming process, unfortunately, and requires the submission of tons of assets to the ratings board – we have to leave the tea-drinkers hanging. Blame the bloody BBFC. (Censorship FTW!)

I personally purchased and downloaded the game on my Xbox last week – when it was finally available for sale in Norway – despite the fact that I have every single edition published thus far, including the Steam version. It’s tradition. Like Christmas. And dwarf tossing.

Oh, and the headline is a bit misleading, because games do get re-released. I don’t even know how many times The Longest Journey has been published in a new edition at this point (probably close to one million times), and we probably, most likely, hopefully haven’t seen the last of Dreamfall either. And remember, the more times you buy the games, the bigger your reward. In heaven.

Cacoethes scribendi

June 1st, 2008

Age of Conan has launched, summer has arrived, I’ve been absent for way too long and it’s time to answer some questions.

So, when should I mark my calendar to play the new episodes of TLJ that are going to come out?

Xbox 360 hearts Dreamfall

March 21st, 2008

Good news, everyone!

Dreamfall joins Xbox Originals lineup March 24.

The Xbox 360 totally loves Zoë. It’s official. They’ve been secretly dating for a while, but now they’re ready to tell the world. And they look so cute together.

Unfortunately, the game won’t be available in all markets – like Norway; drats, because I really wanted to buy and download it – but it’s a good start. And if you have a 360 and live in one of the supported territories, please consider making the $15 investment. Not because I get a cut of the profits, unfortunately, but because success in the LIVE Marketplace would affect the future of the series in a positive way.

(Thanks, Ludwig!)

Edit: The territories are listed here.

Wallpaper, tattoo, and other kick-ass questions, answered

November 26th, 2007

I’ve got a request for you – do you have a wallpaper/larger version of your site banner? It’s just too damn awesome.

Nope, but the original image is available in high resolution elsewhere, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for someone with the time (and the Photoshop) to knock something together.

I was wondering if you had a good, hi-res symbol of the Balance from The Longest Journey, as I was thinking of getting it as a tattoo on my upper-arm.

On fans and other things

October 20th, 2007

We1 have the bestest fans of them all:

Frag Doll Jinx. Favourite games include The Longest Journey. Favourite character? April Ryan. Longest spree? “36 consecutive hours on The Longest Journey.” That’s dedication for you. But what about Dreamfall, Jinx? Granted, it wouldn’t take you thirty-six hours, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. (Thanks, Famine!)

Super sexy fan art hour

August 2nd, 2007

(And with a heading like that, I bid a warm welcome to scores of Googlers out for the latest steamy elf-on-elf Warcraft action.)

Deviant artist ~alvane keeps producing great Dreamfall fan art, and I wanted to showcase her latest three pieces – not just because Zoë is smoking hot, not just because April finally gets her ‘moment’ with Kian, but also because all three are fantastic pieces of work.

As always, if you come across more art inspired by Dreamfall, The Longest Journey, or even The Secret World (might be a tad early for that), let me know, and I’ll pass it on. We can never have enough fan art – and we can never have enough cosplay.

We can be heroes, just for one day

June 4th, 2007

Top 25 Video Game Heroes of All Time: 4) Zoë Castillo and April Ryan.

Of all the female characters in whose proverbial high heels I’ve had the pleasure (or more often, the torture) of walking in, both April and Zoe are definitely two of the deepest, most relatable, and most distinctive.

It’s an interesting list that, unlike many others of its kind, includes adventure game ‘heroes’ (though ‘protagonists’ might be a better word) like Gabriel Knight and Guybrush Threepwood – and a list like this would not be complete without such classic characters.

I don’t necessarily agree with a lot of the choices – Link, for example, is most certainly not my all-time number one hero – but each entry is well argued. And, hey, April and Zoë are listed right after such illustrious entries as Solid Snake, Mario, and the aforementioned green Nintendo poster-boy, so I’m not complaining.

DF+TLJ GOTY = TRU

May 2nd, 2007

… Aspyr will be re-releasing Dreamfall GOTY (Game of The Year) Edition in N. America soon with the original TLJ game, Dreamfall (obviously) and the Dreamfall soundtrack. :) Awesome! :)

Yup. I haven’t mentioned it before, because I didn’t know when it was going to be official, but now it is. Official, that is. So here’s yet another reason to head down to your local GameStop or Best Buy with a wad of cash to pick up a box. Not only will you be supporting a great and important cause, you’ll be getting both Dreamfall and The Longest Journey. And a soundtrack!

Awesome. Awesome, indeed.

If I didn’t already own, like, fifty copies of each game, I’d be all over this one. But I’m running out of shelf space. And they give me free copies. So I’m good.

why bother release it when we already have the Limited edition? And Dreamfall is super, but it wasn’t “game of the year”

Because: a) this is not the limited edition, and there was no limited edition in the U.S.; b) the game has all but vanished from most retail stores, and this is a great way to get it back on the shelves; c) $29.99 is pretty good value for these two games together; and d) yes, Dreamfall was nominated for many, many game of the year awards, and it won quite a few (including GameSpy’s Adventure Game of the Year).

EDIT: And The Longest Journey is out on Steam. Wheee! How come I have to find out about these things from comments posted on my own website?
