WBBM reunites Jacobson and Kurtis for one night only

Station's former star news team will co-anchor Friday's 10 p.m. news

November 12, 2009

For one night only — Friday night — Walter Jacobson and Bill Kurtis will reunite as coanchors of the WBBM-Channel 2 10 o’clock news, where they were No. 1 in the late 1970s to mid-1980s.

Station management decided to reunite them while current solo news anchor Rob Johnson is off.

The idea was to pay tribute to two legends in Chicago broadcasting, according to the station.

There are no plans to bring the pair back beyond the one-night tribute, the station says.

Channel 2 was tied for second place in the latest ratings for its 10 o'clock news, with WMAQ-Channel 5, behind WLS-Channel 7.

Jacobson most recently offered commentary on WFLD-Channel 32's 9 o'clock news.

Kurtis recently returned to Channel 2 doing promos for the station and providing "Cold Case Minute" segments for the 10 o'clock news.
