(CULVER CITY, CA, November 13, 2009)─ Rachel Rothenberg, a 17-year-old senior from Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, won the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament, earning a $75,000 prize.

“I’m still processing everything,” said Rothenberg. “It was a crazy, wonderful, nerve-wracking and life-changing experience.  It was probably more intense than anything I’ve ever done in my life.”

“What an unforgettable feeling to hear show announcer Johnny Gilbert say my name for the first time while the Jeopardy! theme music played,” continued Rothenberg.

Rothenberg plans to save her Jeopardy! winnings for college, however, she will be donating a large sum of her money to local charities within the Pittsburgh community, such as the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Sixth Presbyterian Church and Operation Safety Net (a program that provides warm clothes and medical care to the homeless during the winter).

In her spare time, Rothenberg enjoys reading, writing poetry and short stories and singing with her friends in an amateur folk-rock band. She also participates regularly in her school’s Model United Nations team and assists her church’s youth group program.

Will Dantzler, who attends Bishop England High School in Charleston, S.C., finished 2nd in the tournament and won $31,600.  Third place winner Aidan Mehigan, a student at Saint Anselm’s Abbey School in Washington, DC, took home $15,000. The two-week competition featured 15 students from across the country.

The Jeopardy! Teen Tournament was taped at the Sony Studios in Culver City, Calif., on August 17 and 18.

In the Teen Tournament, players compete in a series of five shows the first week.  The winners of those games and the four highest money-earners go on to the semifinals, and the three winners of those shows proceed to a two-game finals match.  The three finalists keep the money they accumulate in the last two games. Players reaching the semifinals are guaranteed $10,000, while every player is guaranteed at least $5,000. For more information regarding the tournament, please visit www.jeopardy.com.

Jeopardy!, the winner of 28 Emmy awards since its debut in 1984, was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most awards won by a TV Game Show. The series is the #1-rated quiz show in syndication with nearly 9 million daily viewers. Jeopardy! is produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company.
