Final
Egypt clinched the African crown and qualified to the
Grand Champions Cup |
Tetouan,
Morocco, October 4, 2009- The defending champions Egypt
added their fifth African title and the third in a row
after they eased past Algeria 3-0 in the final of the
2009 Men’s African Nations championship held here at
Titouan Stadium Hall in Morocco on Sunday. Egypt secured
the African berth to the 2009 FIVB Grand Champions Cup
in Japan for the second time.
Cameroon cruised past Morocco to win the bronze medal,
while Libya Tunisia clinched the fifth position beating
Libya 3-1 and it is the first time in the history that
Morocco stay outside the podium. South Africa finished
seventh following their victory over Botswana 3-2. Gabon
came at the bottom of the standings in the ninth
position.
The final match was attended by CAVB President Dr. Amr
Elwani, Tetouan Governor Mohamed Ed Ammar, Wali of
Titouan Khazaini Idress, Cameroon ambassador in Morocco

Egypt and Algeria
qualified to final spot |
Tetouan,
Morocco, October 3, 2009- The defending champions Egypt
and Algeria secured their slots to the final of the 2009
Men’s African Nations championship following their
victories over Morocco and Cameroon in the semifinal
matches held here at Titouan Stadium Hall in Morocco on
Saturday. Egypt qualifies to the final for the fourth
time in a row while Algeria reached the prestigious spot
for the first time since 1993.
Egypt plays Algeria on Sunday in the competition final
repeating their qualification to the final of last big
event which was the Olympic qualification in South
Africa 2008. Cameroon meets Morocco for the bronze
medal.
In the playoff for 5-8 positions Tunisia and Libya won
their encounters against South Africa and Botswana.
Tunisia plays Libya for the 5th and 6th positions while
South Africa meets Botswana for the 7th and 8th
positions. |

Algeria, Morocco and Cameroon join Egypt to Semis |

Morocco, October 1, 2009- the surprising Algerian team,
the host team Morocco and Cameroon joined the defending
champions Egypt to the semifinal spot of the 2009 Men’s
African Nations championship after the fifth and last
day of the preliminary round that featured a valuable
victory for Algeria over Tunisia to kick the record
holder from the podium for the first time in the history
of African championships. Libya beat Morocco in a
thriller encounter in front of a full house of
spectators here at Titouan Stadium Hall in Morocco on
Thursday. The victory made equal win- loss ratio between
three teams Cameroon, Morocco and Libya but with the
point ratio Cameroon and Morocco qualified as first and
second while Libya plays for 5-8 brackets. The last day
showed also Botswana achieving their first victory
against Gabon to play for the 5-8 brackets.

Morocco, September 30, 2009- The defending champions
Egypt secured the first qualification ticket to the
semifinal of the 2009 Men’s African Nations championship
following their exciting victory over their compatriots
Tunisia in the fourth day of the preliminary round here
at Stade Tetouan Hall in Morocco on Wednesday. Cameroon
and Algeria achieved their second victory over South
Africa and Botswana respectively to come one more step
towards the semifinal tickets
Cameroon led pool A at the end of the fourth day of the
preliminary round with 5 points from a win- loss ratio
of 2-1 ahead of Morocco that came was in a rest day and
came second with 4 points. Egypt led pool B with 8
points followed by Algeria and Tunisia 5 points and meet
on Thursday for the second ticket of the pool.

Morocco, September 29, 2009- The defending champions
Egypt clinched their third victory in a raw over
Botswana to come near a semifinal berth while the
favorite Algeria set their first victory in the third
day of the 2009 Men’s African Nations championship here
at Stade Tetouan Hall in Morocco on Tuesday. Libya also
beat South Africa in their attempt to catch one of the
pool A tickets to the semifinal.
Morocco which was in a rest day stayed at the top of
pool A at the end of the third day of the preliminary
round with 4 points from a win- loss ratio of 2-0 ahead
of Cameroon that came second with 3 points from 1-1
record followed by Libya 1-1 and South Africa 0-2. Egypt
returned back at the top of Pool B with a win- loss
ratio of 3-0 ahead of Tunisia that came second (2-0) and
Algeria third (1-1) followed by Gabon (0-3) and Botswana
(0-2).

Morocco to semis,

Morocco, September 28, 2009- The defending champions
Egypt and the record holder Tunisia went through to
clinch the second victory over Algeria and Gabon
respectively in the second day of the 2009 Men’s African
Nations championship here at Stade Tetouan Hall in
Morocco on Monday. Morocco was the star of the day after
their thriller victory over Cameroon in the day’s only
tiebreaker in front of 800 spectators to secure the
first ticket to the semifinal.
Morocco led pool A with 4 points from a win- loss ratio
of 2-0 ahead of Cameroon that came second with 3 points
from 1-1 record followed by Libya and South Africa who
were in a rest day. Tunisia led Pool B with a win- loss
ratio of 2-0 ahead of Egypt by the point ratio.

Morocco, September 27, 2009- all the big forces set
their first victory in the opening day of the 2009 Men’s
African as the favorites Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco won
their matches easily in straight sets against Gabon,
Botswana and South Africa respectively here at Stade
Tetouan Hall in Morocco on Sunday. Cameroon played the
best match of the opening day when they fought for sets
to defeat the disciplined Libyan team 3-1.
Morocco led pool A by the end of the first day with the
point ratio ahead of Cameroon, while Egypt led pool B
with the same against Tunisia.
The opening ceremony was attended by Tetouan Governor
Mohamed Ed Ammar, Wali of Titouan Khazaini Idress, CAVB
Vice President Louis Majore Timba, Morocco volleyball
Federation President Abdel Hadi Ghzali, SOC Delegate
Monir Ben Slimane, Referee Delegate Hassan Ahmed and the
CAVB Technical director Mrs. Howyda Mondy
The second day will feature three matches as Cameroon
plays Morocco in a big battle in pool B while pool B
will show up a big derby between the neighbors of North
Africa Egypt and Algeria and another face off between
Tunisia and Gabon.

Tetouan, Morocco, September 27, 2009- The drawing of
lots of the 2009 Men’s African Nations Championship held
in Tetouan, Morocco on Saturday put the three power
forces Egypt the defending champions, Tunisia the last
competition runner up and the emerging Algeria in
stronger pool B of the completion with Gabon and
Botswana. Pool A comprises the host team Morocco,
Cameroon, South Africa and Libya.
The prestigious CAVB championship qualifying to the 2009
Grand Champions Cup in Japan will feature 4 matches in
the opening day. In pool A South Africa meets Morocco
and Libya plays Cameroon. Pool B shows Egypt facing
Gabon and Botswana playing Tunisia.
The technical meeting of the competition showed a big
attendance of Media including the written press and TV
and Radio channels as well as the internet web sites as
they expressed all their expectation of a strong
competition with the participation of all the
continental big forces.

Morocco ready to host
a world class competition with 12 participating national
teams

Morocco, September 16, 2009- Morocco volleyball
federation put everything in order to host the 2009
Men’s African Nations Championship to be held in Tetouan,
Morocco 27 September to 4 October in presence of all the
continental big forces.
Morocco Volleyball Federation (FMVB) president Abdelhadi
Ghzali held two press conferences last week attended by
all kinds of Media to step the work forwards before the
prestigious competition that is considered the most
important between all the CAVB Championships.
The press conference showed the Media, through the
communication department president Mrs. Touria Aarab,
all the preparations made by the federation to host this
event. |
