Morocco ready to host
a world class competition with 12 participating national
teams

Morocco, September 16, 2009- Morocco volleyball
federation put everything in order to host the 2009
Men’s African Nations Championship to be held in Tetouan,
Morocco 27 September to 4 October in presence of all the
continental big forces.
Morocco Volleyball Federation (FMVB) president Abdelhadi
Ghzali held two press conferences last week attended by
all kinds of Media to step the work forwards before the
prestigious competition that is considered the most
important between all the CAVB Championships.
The press conference showed the Media, through the
communication department president Mrs. Touria Aarab,
all the preparations made by the federation to host this
event.
The competition will feature 12 National teams playing
in 2 pools to determine the African champions led by the
reigning champions Egypt who won the title in Cairo 2005
and Durban 2007. FIVB ranked 18th still Egypt comes as
the big contenders to win the trophy and achieve the
African title for the fifth time. Egypt recently secured
one of the three African tickets in the 2010 World
Championship in Italy.
With an ambitious team supported by their own spectators
Morocco wants to put their name in the list of champions
for the first time. The well, prepared team wants to
show consistency in their first ever organization of
this event.
Tunisia is the second ranked African team in the World
ranking (20) but they are the most titled team in this
prestigious competition with 8 titles under their built,
the last of them was in Cairo 2003. The big African
force showed dramatic change in the lineup following
their fourth position finish at the 2008 African Olympic
qualifications in South Africa and they are ambitious
now to regain the African top title. The new look team
secured the second African ticket to 2010 World
championship in Italy.
With their emerging performance in the last two years
Algeria comes also as a great favorite for the title
specially after their amazing performance at the African
Olympic Qualifications finishing second after Egypt, the
African representative in Beijing. Algeria won two
titles before in this competition.
The winner of the third berth in the 2010 World
Championship Cameroon is considered also big force with
the mixture of the European based professionals and the
local players. Cameroon is a two times African champions
in the history of the competition.
Other participating teams are South Africa who finished
fourth in the 2007 edition in their homelands, Kenya,
Botswana, Sudan, Nigeria, Libya and RD Congo.

le Maroc ,pays organisateur onze (11) pays , l'Egypte (tenante
du titre), la Tunisie (vice- championne), l'Algérie
'(absente en 2005 et 2007 ), la Libye, l'Afrique du Sud,
le Botswana, le Cameroun, le Nigeria, le Kenya, la
République Démocratique du Congo et le Soudan vont
prendre part au 17e championnat d Afrique des nations
seniors hommes de volleyball que va abrite la ville de
Tétouane, au nord du Maroc, à 50 km de Tanger, qui
commence à vibrer à l’heure africaine. Elle s’embellit
et se prépare pour accueillir un événement majeur. Il
s’agit du championnat d’Afrique des nations dans sa
dix-septième édition prévu du 26 septembre au 06 octobre
2009
Double enjeu pour cette 17e Can, Le vainqueur ira au
Japon pour représenter le continent à la Coupe des
Confédérations prévue au cours de la deuxième moitié du
mois de novembre prochain du 18 au 23 novembre 2009 Une
compétition de renommée qui groupe les cinq champions
continentaux. Puis aussi la nouveauté le lauréat de la
CAN du Maroc jouera pour la 1ère fois les éliminatoires
de la Ligue mondiale qui se tient annuellement entre fin
mai et début juillet. Pour l’année 2010, le processus de
qualification a déjà débuté.
L’Egypte en tant que champion d’Afrique en 2007
représentera l’Afrique. La Ligue mondiale rassemble
douze équipes et est dotée d’un montant de seize
millions de dollars répartis sur tous les participants
en fonction de leur classement.
Pour cette 17e CAN 2009 messieurs, tout se passe à
merveille en matière d’organisation, selon une source
officielle de la Confédération africaine de volley-ball.
La dernière visite d’inspection du président de
l’instance africaine, Dr Amer Alwani pour tous les sites
de la compétition, a suscité son admiration. Toutes les
délégations sportives auront toutes les conditions du
confort.
La Cavb a désigné l’Egyptien Hassen Ahmed, à la tête de
la commission d’arbitrage du championnat d’Afrique des
nations hommes prévu à Tétouan, au Maroc du 26 septembre
au 5 octobre 2009. Le Tunisien Khaled Ben Chaâbène en
fera également partie.
Pour la13e CAN dames à Blida en Algérie du 4 au 12
octobre, c’est le Tunisien Abdelmajid Jrad qui dirigera
le corps arbitral avec son compatriote Mohsen El Yousfi.;
l Algérie sera représente dans ses deux compétitions par
les arbitres internationaux ; Mohamed Badr Lazreg et
Yacine Merabet
La réunion technique générale se tiendra le 26 septembre.
Elle procédera à la composition des deux poules de six
(6) équipes du premier tour, et à l’établissement des
rencontres. Le démarrage de la CAN est fixé pour le 27
septembre. Probablement le Maroc pays hôte sera tète du
groupe A et l Egypte détentrice 2007 celle du groupe D
la finale aura lieu le 6 octobre. Il est a rappeler que
le palmarès championnat d Afrique des nations seniors
messieurs de volleyball est comme suit ; Tunisie 8
trophées ,Egypte 4 Algérie 2 et le Cameroun 2 titres
