The Walls Explained

The Concrete Sculptured Wall

Climbing wallThis wall is designed to form a dedicated teaching and novices area. However, modern route setting makes it possible for us to provide harder climbs in the same area to challenge even the best climbers. Fixed top ropes are provided alongside effective leader protection in the form of bolts and specially designed cracks that facilitate the use of self-placed protection.

The Overhanging Leading Wall

Climbing wallThis modern feature has enough variety and challenge to appeal to all standards of climber. With sections overhanging up to 4m on a 9m high wall, there is ample scope for varied and interesting routes which we change on a regular basis. There are quick-draws at all protection points for lead climbing.

The Moulded Resin Bouldering Wall

Bouldering wallThis wall provides an additional bouldering facility which complements our 30-metre long traversing wall. A modern 4m high moulded resin surface provides a great variety of challenges to test the best. Provision for extra bolt-on holds also ensures that routes can be changed regularly. Competitions are held on a regular basis.

The Vertical Plywood Top-roping Wall

Climbing wall entrance This supports a variety of top-rope route problems, mainly intended for the novice to mid-range climber, but with a few more challenging routes. As with the rest of the facility, we regularly change the routes to maintain interest.

Schools and Groups

Climber Our team of qualified instructors are ready to help any group enjoy this challenging sport. A minimum age of eight years old and a minimum ratio of one instructor per eight participants apply to ensure safety and enjoyment for all. Juniors

female climbingJunior climbers under 16 years of age must be accompanied on the wall by an adult at all times.

A number of climbing courses are available, as well as our Junior Cliffhangers Club.

Regular competitions and achievement awards provide targets for all abilities to reach for.

We can also host Children's Birthday Parties.

The Novice

A varied range of routes is provided for novices and less experienced climbers. We also provide a comprehensive programme of courses from three-session 'tasters' through to six week improvers.

The Experienced Climber

A diverse range of wall surfaces - overhangs, natural protection placements and challenging routes - provides ample enjoyment for experienced climbers. All routes are named for ease of identification. A book is available for your feedback on quality, grade etc. Please ask at the Ridge Reception.
