In Brief: Tomorrow Never Knows, DM Stith, Laminar Excursion, Jaga Jazzist

-- January 13-17, the Tomorrow Never Knows Festival will come to the Chicago venues Schubas and Lincoln Hall. Atlas Sound, Final Fantasy, Bowerbirds, the Cribs, Voxtrot, the Rural Alberta Advantage, Lee Fields & the Expressions, and others will perform, with more artists to be announced.

-- Bedroom folkie DM Stith has already dropped two EPs this year. And on December 8, he'll complete the trilogy when he drops his Braid of Voices EP on Asthmatic Kitty. It features remixes by Bibio and Clark.

-- Two Bloomington, Indiana labels, Crossroads of America and Flannelgraph, have teamed up to launch a 3" CD subscription series called Laminar Excursion Monthly. Folks like Richard Swift, J. Tillman, Damien Jurado, and Cotton Jones will contribute music to the tiny, tiny CDs. Subscribers will get two CDs per month for all of 2010, as well as a box to hold all of them. You can subscribe to the series here, but they're only taking 100 subscribers, so click fast.

-- On January 25, Ninja Tune will release One-Armed Bandit, the new album from nine-member Norwegian experimental crew Jaga Jazzist. Tortoise's John McEntire mixed the album in Chicago.

Los Campesinos! Reveal Bloody LP Art

Los Campesinos! Reveal Bloody LP Art

The new album from blustery British band Los Campesinos! is called Romance Is Boring. It's out January 26 in North America (February 1 in the UK) on CD, LP, and MP3. That picture of a bleeding leg is the cover designed by Cari Ann Wayman, according to the band's site. Sort of grotesque, sort of beautiful, very apropos.

Javelin Offer Custom Record Covers

And hang out with Mos Def Javelin Offer Custom Record Covers

Photos by Rez Avissar

Rising Brooklyn beats duo Javelin specialize in second-hand sounds, so it's only fitting that they're offering to remix a record sleeve from your collection for their upcoming 12" release on Thrill Jockey. Basically, you send an empty 12" jacket to Thrill Jockey, and it'll get Javelin-ized and sent back to you with their record inside. Javelin will also make you a t-shirt or hoodie if you want. The deadline to send in your jacket is January 18, and the release date for the 12"-- which is titled "Number Two"-- is February 16. More details are after the jump.

Video: Fever Ray: "Keep the Streets Empty for Me"

Video: Fever Ray: "Keep the Streets Empty for Me"

There's a strong case to be made that Fever Ray is the Music Video Artist of the Year. For the latest clip from Knife singer Karin Dreijer Andersson's debut solo album, we get a somber black-and-white clip featuring a fashionable homeless girl meandering through a barren cityscape. The video was directed by Jens Klevje and Fabian Svensson and you can watch it (along with most of Fever Ray's great 2009 vids) at Pitchfork.tv. It's embedded below, too:

Watch Dinosaur Jr. Sing About Bananas at "Yo Gabba Gabba" Live Show

"Mommy, why are the scary homeless men on stage?" Watch Dinosaur Jr. Sing About Bananas at "Yo Gabba Gabba" Live Show

The folks behind the ADD Nickelodeon kids' show "Yo Gabba Gabba" are doing God's work: Bringing hipster music to children and making aging indie parents feel cool again. "Yo Gabba Gabba" has featured music from the likes of MGMT, Of Montreal, Les Savy Fav and Weezer (in bug costumes!), and the show is now on the road, bringing flashy entertainment to toddlers across the country.

This past weekend, the "Yo Gabba Gabba" live show came to New York's Beacon Theatre. As Brooklyn Vegan reports, the show included special guests Devendra Banhart, the Roots, and Dinosaur Jr. Dinosaur Jr. played "Banana", a song previously done on the show by the L.A. ska ensemble the Aggrolites, of all people. And yes, it is all about bananas and how good they are. It must be hard avoiding the obvious jokes when you're in a room full of little kids.

Black Keys Hip-Hop Project: The Car!

Blakroc gets its own Camaro. (It's black.) Black Keys Hip-Hop Project: The Car!

Blakroc is the imminent album featuring blues duo the Black Keys collaborating with hip-hop heavies like Mos Def, RZA, and Raekwon. And because nothing says "unlikely rap-rock side project" like a customized sports car, you can also buy an all-black-everything Blakroc Chevy Camaro the same day the album drops this Friday, November 27. This is real.

According to a (unintentionally?) comical press release on the car's official website, "the BlakRoc Camaro has been equipped with sleek, stylish accents that tie in with the BlakRoc brand." Considering all the flash and talk of "branding," we get a feeling Blakroc guru Damon Dash may be behind this glossy bit of synergy. And why not?! For those interested in buying one of these sleek vehicles-- USB port included!-- they're only on sale at Carl Black (!) Chevrolet in Atlanta and Nashville.

How the hell is Black Rob not involved in this whole thing?! (Maybe he's selling the car?)

The Blakroc tracklist-- along with some more Blakcar photos-- is below:

LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy Scores Noah Baumbach Movie

Plus vague update on new LCD Soundsystem album LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy Scores Noah Baumbach Movie

As we reported back in September, there's a new LCD Soundsystem album coming next year. But that isn't the only new music we'll hear from James Murphy in 2010. On March 12, Focus Features will release Greenberg, the new movie from director and Wes Anderson collaborator Noah Baumbach, whose past films include masterworks of neurosis like Kicking and Screaming and The Squid and the Whale. As The Playlist points out, the movie's trailer promises "new music from James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem."

Massive Attack Announce New Album

Guests include Damon Albarn and TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe. Massive Attack Announce New Album

Almost seven years after their full studio album, 2003's 100th Window, trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack are ready to release more dubby darkness into the world. Their fifth full-length, Heligoland, is out February 9 via Virgin in the U.S. (February 8 in the UK). (Heligoland is "a small German archipelago in the North Sea," according to our friends at Wikipedia.)

The album features an enviable list of vocal contributors: Damon Albarn, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, Elbow's Guy Garvey, Martina Topley-Bird, Hope Sandoval, and Horace Andy. Albarn also plays bass on the track "Flat of the Blade". The Adebimpe-featuring track "Pray for Rain" and the Andy-featuring "Splitting the Atom" were both featured on the recent Splitting the Atom EP.

The Bristol duo also tapped Portishead's Adrian Utley to play guitar on a track, and DFA's Tim Goldsworthy contributed here and there. As previously reported, a Heligoland remix album by none other than Burial is in the works as well.

Heligoland's ten tracks are listed in order below:
