Alejandro Colunga

Curriculum Vitae

 

Alejandro Colunga was born in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico on December 11th 1948.


He studied architecture, music and tourism from 1968-1972

 

He is a self-taught person.

 

He has participated in many exhibitions, individually and collectively since 1968, in the United States, Mexico, Europe and South America.

 

Some of his works of art form part of important private collections as well as museum collections.

 

He works on ambitious sculptural projects integrating water tanks, iron, crystal and live fish.

 

His home base is Guadalajara where he develops most of his projects and although he has his own workshops he also works in different workshops around the world.

 

In 1988 he received the “MINERVA A LAS ARTES” prize.

In 1994 he received the “JALISCO A LAS ARTES” prize and the “ ARQUITECTURA” prize for the sculpture “La Sala de los Magos” which is situated in from of the Hospicio Cabanas, in the category of open spaces.

                         mummies planters, alien children and furniture, in the prestigious

2000                      Experiment on Space on a traditional Mexican Chair (equipal) in             

Coordination with the historian and investigator Martha Figueroa. Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico

2001                      Homage of Art and Fashion to Alejandro Colunga for “La Noche de Los 

Magos” situated in the plaza of the Cultural Center Cabanas.  Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.

2002                      Created sceneography, wardrobe, make up and acted in the theatrical play “Las Bodas Del Cielo y El Infierno” by William Blake in the Teatro de                        las Artes in the National Center of Arts in Mexico City and Degollado                       Theater in Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico and Tampico Mexico.

      2002           Installed an interactive, monumental sculpture in downtown Portland 

                   Oregon, U.S.A.

2003                      Developed a project for the relocation of eight monumental sculptures in       

Puerto Vallarta, Jal. Mexico.

2004                      Exhibition at the Galeria Azul in Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.

2005                      Acts in the short film “Sincronia” in Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.

2005           Develops a monumental sculpture for the Nassau County Museum, Long 

Island, New York. U.S.A.

2005           Designs a series of sculptures functioning as preseas in homage to the

                   most important soccer players in the world.

2006           He is invited to have a itinerante exposition for the Juan Onate foundation

                         Madrid Spain.

2006           Started his book in large format of his works of art on editions Espejo de

                   Obsidiana.  Mexico City. Mexico

2006           Started a movie of his life and works, directed by the Romanian director

                   Antoniu Moldovan. 

2006           He is invited by the Technological University of Monterrey to create a

                         group of monumental sculptures on the campus.  Monterrey, N.L.

                         Mexico.

      2006           Permanent exhibition at the Nassau Museum.  Nassau, Bahamas.

      2006           Works on a group of sculptures from “Jardin de Los Magos”, based on

                         childrens games. 

2006           Works on a series of lithographs in large format on the workshop of    

                   Guacha Bato in colaboration with Sergio Ruiz.

2006           Recognition in Congress.  Mexico City. Mexico.

2006           Recognition on university radio by the University of Guadalajara in   

                   Puerto Vallarta, Jal.  Mexico.
