Laser Safety

Lasers are used for research throughout Boston University and for clinical purposes at the Boston Medical Center.  The Office of Radiation Safety is responsible for ensuring that all research and clinical uses of lasers are performed safely, and comply with applicable Federal and state regulations.  These responsibilities are carried out by establishing an authorization process for users, outlining facility requirements, providing laser safety training, requiring appropriate eyewear, and requiring users to develop standard operating procedures.  Periodic inspections of laser use are conducted by the Office of Radiation Safety staff to ensure compliance with the elements of the program.
