Menkes syndrome (mengĀ“kәz)   an inherited abnormality of copper absorption, caused by a recessive gene located on the X chromosome, that causes symptoms of copper poisoning in infancy; affected babies have sparse, brittle scalp hair, severe cerebral degeneration, and arterial changes, and usually die in infancy.
