IRC accepts flood assistance requests

The Irish Red Cross has said it has begun to accept applications from people affected by the recent flooding and who are in need of financial assistance.

The charity said applicants would not be means tested but people would be subject to an assessment process.

It also said that payments from the fund would be considered independently of any other compensation or assistance people may receive.

The Red Cross said it expects to raise €1m in aid to help flood victims.
