Overview

Live Communications Server 2005 Intelligent IM Filter application allows administrators greater flexibility in the protection of their instant message networks than the default IMFilter application that is installed on all Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 servers. The default IMFilter blocks all URLs and file transfers, but the enhanced functionality that the Intelligent IM Filter permits several options for configuring how URLs and file transfers are handled. This new enhanced filter also includes configurable logging options and multiple performance counters for tracking network usage and identifying security or performance issues before they cause problems.

The Intelligent Instant Message Filter application is a managed application that can be installed on the following Live Communications Server roles:
  • Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1, Standard Edition
  • Live Communications Server with SP1, Enterprise Edition
  • Live Communications Server with SP1, Access Proxy
  • Live Communications Server with SP1, Proxy Server

Note:
  • The English version of the Intelligent IM Filter is only supported on the English versions of Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1.
  • Live Communications Server with SP1 is the minimum version required. The Intelligent IM Filter is not supported on Live Communications Server 2005 without SP1.

Important: Before installing Intelligent IM Filter, please read the Deploying Live Communications Server 2005 Intelligent Instant Message Filter guide. If you do not configure Intelligent IM Filter correctly, your messaging environment can be negatively affected.

Instructions

To install this download:
  1. Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your hard disk.
  2. Double-click the IIMFilterInstall.msi program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Note: The Intelligent Instant Message Filter application and the default IMFilter can be installed on the same server concurrently. However, at any given time, only one of the two will be enabled on the server.

After you install this download, refer to the Deploying Live Communications Server 2005 Intelligent Instant Message Filter documentation for instructions.

To remove this download:
To remove the download file, delete the file IIMFilterInstall.msi.

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of currently installed programs, select Live Communications Server 2005 Intelligent IM Filter and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
  4. Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
