Since our founding in 1991, we have made grants to over 60 music programs in and around Boston, including Salem, Everett, Medford, Somerville, Arlington, Waltham, Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, and others, as well in Boston (Roxbury and Dorchester) itself.
With the help of the Bubs Foundation, school programs have been able to purchase multicultural music, choral robes, and critical equipment such as keyboards and folding risers. Through our grant program, thousands of students have expanded opportunities to enjoy small ensemble and choral singing while building performance and teamwork skills, self-esteem and personal growth.
For the 2009-2010 school year, The Bubs Foundation made grants to two deserving schools:
- The John F. Kennedy Middle School in Somerville received a grant to purchase music for their choral program. Over 1/3 of the students participate in the chorus, and the grant will allow them to have new music to perform at their winter and spring concerts.
- The Rafael Hernandez Bilingual School in Jamaica Plain received a grant to purchase a variety of instruments, such as recorders and xylophones for their “Musica para Todos” program. In addition to the instrumental musical skills gained from the class, the students will be learning vocal skills, such as ear training and sight singing. Without the grant from the Bubs Foundation, the program would not have the funding to operate this school year.
