Swap out "Shine Blockas" and "Zero" with DOOM's "Gazillion Ear" and Wild Beasts' "All The Kings Men" and you have my top ten.

The album ratings are the opinion of the specific writer assigned to review that album, while this list is the result of a vote by everyone at P4K. There are bound to be some discrepancies between the two.

I've never understood it when people claim that I must be "pretending" to enjoy a band based on their particular aversion to them. So you don't like Dirty Projectors, that's fine, I'm not particularly fond of McDonald's, does that mean that everyone else eating it happily on a daily basis is faking it? No. Different people have different tastes, musical or otherwise. It's not that big of a deal.

That's such a cop-out. The band's drunken stage antics hardly excuses Jared's choice of words, or his asshole actions. He walked up to a stranger and basically said, "You're a faggot and I don't like you..." then recounted the event as if he were proud of it. Yup, sounds like every homophobic asshole I went to high school with.

"Lo-Fi, I love you but you're bringing me down."
I enjoy both bands and could care less about their little hissy-fits, but one thing I can't stand is the casual homophobia that seems to flow from Jared's mouth. I know his band is stuck in the sixties, but it's actually 2009 now and that shit doesn't fly anymore.

If we're talking indie supergroups, Swan Lake could eat these guys alive.

She may not be a "shredder", but she is a damn good guitar player:

I think they should have gone with "No Intention" instead.
I played the album at work to a bunch of people who had never heard them and it was the only song everyone enjoyed. To people who are already fans of the band it can seem like sort of a boring song, especially since it's sandwiched between two monster tracks on the album, but for the uninitiated it's probably the easiest to enjoy.
Also, everyone I've played the album to hates "Stillness Is The Move".
Whatever.

MF Doom.
He's got a crazy discography spread across albums under several different aliases and a ton of guest appearances. Include the best of those and throw in a few tracks from his early 90's KMD days and you've got a great compilation.

In semi-related news, I was channel surfing (people still call it that, right?) last night and happened to notice the adorable Jenny Slate on the terrible Fox sitcom, "Brothers". She was great! The show? Not so much. Or, not at all.

Awww, the Disco & Dragons episode! I thin I'll just watch Freaks and Geeks tonight and have my own solo Pizza Pity Party.

Ugh. Why does California have to be so far from New York? Hopefully when this state breaks off in 2012 we'll float around the world and end up right next to NY. Then we'll be neighbors! (This is a perfectly scientifically plausible future occurrence. Trust me. Whale biologist.)

Happy Thanksgiving, Gabe! I'm going to drink too much, eat three whole pumpkin pies and generally live it up. Enjoy yourselves, Monsters!

I've been so busy having fun at dinner and jumping into life these past two weeks that I haven't been keeping up with this place at all. It's insane how out of the loop you feel when you miss a few posts. Already you monsters have strange new inside jokes that scare and confuse me. Outoftheloopgum.com is no fun. I guess I need to build a time machine and KILL HITLER and catch up on some reading.
Oh, and I'm not sure if anyone else has posted a link to this, but watch it and thank me later.

I think the main problem is that most people who've seen this movie, including myself, are already on board with the idea of violence in film being far too ubiquitous and end up feeling gaining nothing from the experience, while the kind of person who actually needs to see this film would probably just skip it and watch Saw 64 instead.

I'm glad they didn't rank this based solely on the scores assigned upon release. I think it's pretty evident that the staff as a whole took stock of what albums had held up exceptionally well over the years (e.g. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was ranked number 11 on the '00-'04 list, but here it was number 4...which is much more fitting).
The only albums for which this list isn't "fair" are the recent releases, say those from 2008 and 2009, because they haven't had time to sink in with people like, say, Kid A or YHF or Funeral. Kid A still sounds fresh and exciting and revelatory 10 years later, and that's why it is number 1...however, who knows if something released recently is capable of usurping it. I guess we'll know in 5 years or so after the recent releases have had time to really "sink in."
(For the record, I don't think any recent release is better than Kid A, but that's my opinion. But I'd put Wilco's A Ghost Is Born at number 1, and I don't think it made the list at all. Oh well.)
