According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the name Saints was the popular choice in a fan contest staged by the New Orleans States-Item. However, with or without the contest, the New Orleans team would most likely have been called the Saints. The franchise was awarded on All Saints Day, November 1, 1966. New Orleans was famous worldwide as the city of jazz and the famous marching song, "When the Saints Go Marching In".

Saints players don't have their own individual e-mail accounts, but you can send them regular mail at the team's training facility. Correspondence to individual players should be addressed: c/o New Orleans Saints; 5800 Airline Drive; Metairie, LA 70003.

The New Orleans Saints name and logos are copyrights of the National Football League. Any person or business wishing to make and sell products incorporating NFL copyrights must obtain a merchandise license from NFL Properties. Individual NFL clubs -- including the Saints -- do not have the authority to grant anyone permission to make and sell products incorporating NFL copyrights. For more information, please call the NFL Licensing Hotline at (212) 450-2780.

Many Saints fans have inquired about the availability of game audio, which in the past was provided by the NFL free of charge and made available on NewOrleansSaints.com. As of August 8, 2003, the NFL and NFL.com launched NFL Field Pass, a new subscription-only service for audio and video. Because game broadcasts are included in the package, NewOrleansSaints.com can no longer offer the links free of charge. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause our fans. All non-game audio, such as press conferences, etc., will continue to be provided free of charge on NewOrleansSaints.com. We thank our fans for their steadfast support and understanding.
-
Due to NFL broadcast regulations, a particular game is shown on network television just one time. Clubs are not allowed to make or sell video tapes of games for the general public. Each year, NFL Films produces a season highlight tape on the Saints, which is available during the summer at local video stores.

The Fleur de Lis, the emblem most closely associated with the New Orleans Saints and worn on the team's helmets, is a symbol from the Court of Louis XIV. It is a french word that stands for "flower of the lily". The Fleur de Lis is also a symbol for New Orleans, which was adopted during the French occupation of Louisiana from 1682-1762. Traditionally, it has been used to represent French royalty, and in that sense, it is said to signify perfection, light and life. Due to its' three petals, the fleur-de-lis has also been used to represent the Holy Trinity.

After much effort and discussion, the New Orleans Saints decided to remove the Black & Gold Nation Message Boards feature from NewOrleansSaints.com during the summer of 2004. We could no longer effectively manage those fan forums and present a product that is fan friendly and promotes a family environment, both important qualities of our organization and goals of our web site. The message boards had been a web site feature since the 2000 season, but we encountered a wide range of problems. They included trolls, sexual innuendos, indecent language, personal attacks on posters, inappropriate topics, and others. We did our best to delete posts that violate our code of conduct and warned or banned the user(s) who posted them upon their discovery. Unfortunately, the volume of problems was such that we felt like we could better use our time by creating and providing quality content that will keep fans returning to NewOrleansSaints.com.
