THINGS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT GUMBO

- GUMBO has been a fixture of the Saints since the inaugural 1967 season.

The original GUMBO was a gift to the New Orleans Saints from the Louisiana Restaurant Association. It was a natural evolution of this idea that the dog be a Saint Bernard, and the name, GUMBO (a conglomeration of food), reflects the Restaurant Association as well as a famous traditional Cajun meal loved by young and old, rich and poor (a mix like all people who love and support the Saints).

- GUMBO went into a mascot hiatus for a few years to learn to walk on two legs and to train for the Saints Football Team.

- GUMBO was heavily recruited by Saints Scouts for his leadership and motivational talents. However, when given the ball he stumbled over his own feet too many times. As the players laughed at his flips and tumbles he realized his true calling in making everyone laugh and exciting the crowd as a mascot. In response to the fans’ pleas for a come back, GUMBO triumphantly returned to the sidelines as the adorable, huggable, and energetic Saints Mascot we all have come to know and love!

- Averages 70,000 smiles from fans per game

 - Having recently shot 3 commercials in Los Angeles for NBC, NFL Network, and Dish Network, as well as appearing on ESPN’s “Make a Wish Series”, traveling to China for their New Year’s Parade, and several Pro-Bowl appearances, GUMBO has managed to stay relatively humble not allowing all the attention to go to his already oversized head. However, he now demands that his favorite food be served at a perfect 88 degrees in his dog house at the Superdome for every game.

- Children of all ages beware! He will lick your face!

- Adults of all ages beware! He will bring out the kid in you… and lick your face!

- Not only can you find GUMBO leading the Saints out of the tunnel and patrolling the sidelines of the Superdome leading the cheer at every home game, but he can also be found at charitable events, birthday parties, pep rallies, school assemblies, and many other events all over the Gulf Coast.
