September 24, 2009 - For a while now, we've known that Tekken 6 was coming to the PSP and promised most of the cool stuff that the consoles were getting, but the news was pretty sparse after that announcement. Today, with TGS in full swing, we know something else.

Simply put, we know that this game looks amazing.

Now, I'm not talking about modes or what the overall package is when I say "amazing." What I mean is that the characters, environments, and moves look amazing. Like, the graphics are insane. These are slimmed down versions of the character models from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Tekken 6, but they don't look like they've lost much. I saw Panda, Kuma, Raven, and Devil Jin rock each other's faces with punches, claws, and kicks today, and I'll be damned if it didn't look smooth, colorful and fierce.

Wait until you see it in motion.

All 40 of the console's characters are here along with destructible floors and character customization. The PSP won't have the side-scrolling action mode the consoles are getting, but it will get a couple of stages for ad-hoc play that are exclusive and designed to reduce lag. Look for the traditional arcade and versus modes, too.

In between flaming explosions and Panda's dancing celebration, I spoke with the developers of Tekken 6. They said that they see this game being a supplement to the stuff you'll be seeing on the consoles. Because this portable version of the game packs the same moves and characters, you can use your handheld to sharpen your skills while you're away from your flat-screen TV -- this is an experience geared for the single-player experience.

Sadly, my time with Tekken 6 on the PSP was extremely brief and limited to a series of one-round fights. I was told that the game is still "a work in progress," so specifics weren't that easy to come by in terms of what the game will be packing under the hood other than a similar experience to what you'll be getting on the consoles. What you need to know is that most of the visuals looked great (I did see feet clipping through the floor at one point and thought that the fat guy in flannel's hair looked shabby) and the fighting was fun and on par with the 3D brawling you'd expect from this franchise.

I was told the game was still set for a fall 2009 release, so look for more information on Tekken 6 soon.
