Delhi Daredevils beat Wayamba by 50 runs
India team-mates Virender Sehwag and Dinesh Karthik plundered half-centuries as Delhi slammed Sri Lankan side Wayamba by 50 runs.
The home side rattled up an above-par 170 for five in their 20 overs and the chase proved beyond Wayamba, who could only make 120 for seven despite 53 from Mahela Jayawardene.
The Daredevils needed a victory to retain any hope of making it into the Super Eights and Sehwag made light of a tricky pitch that befuddled the Sussex batsmen in the earlier match.
Sehwag (66 from 42 balls) dominated a third-wicket stand with Karthik (61 off 41) after losing Tillakaratne Dilshan and Gautam Gambhir cheaply, the opener racing to his half-century off 32 deliveries before being run out.
Karthik found good support in Owais Shah, who made 18 from 10 balls, and the wicketkeeper-batsman ruined Ajantha Mendis' figures by slamming 23 off his last over.
Australia's Dirk Nannes, who shared the new ball with fellow left-armer Ashish Nehra, then secured the early breakthroughs - bowling Mahela Udawatte and Michael Vandort in his first two overs.
Glenn McGrath, a replacement for the injured Paul Collingwood, chipped in with two wickets in his second over to leave Wayamba in deep trouble on 36 for five in the eighth over.
Sri Lanka stalwart Jayawardene fought a lone battle and had made 53 when Nannes returned to claim his scalp, on the way to figures of four for 24.
