Champions League T20 - Group D
Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi
Wayamba 118-9 v Victorian Bushrangers 103-4
Wayamba beat Victorian Bushrangers by 15 runs
The Victorian Bushrangers progressed to the Super Eights at the Champions League Twenty20 despite losing by 15 runs to Wayamba in the final Group D fixture.
Chasing a target of 119, Brad Hodge hit an unbeaten 44 as the Bushrangers finished short on 103-4 but, crucially, kept their net run-rate above that of their Sri Lankan opponents.
All three teams in Group D finished on two points with Victoria and the Delhi Daredevils progressing to the Super Eights on net run-rate.
Wayamba had struggled to 118-8 after choosing to make first use of a difficult wicket for batting at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
Jeevantha Kulatunga and Michael Vandort shared an 81-run stand off 73 balls for the second wicket after Peter Siddle (1-12) had trapped Mahela Udawatte lbw for one with the 12th ball of the innings.
But both Kulatunga (41) and Vandort (42) fell in the 15th over, bowled by Clint McKay (2-24), prompting a late meltdown.
Veteran seamer Shane Harwood hit the stumps three times in the closing overs to finish with figures of 3-14, a haul that earned him the man-of-the-match award.
The Bushrangers headed out for their run chase knowing they only had to avoid being skittled for less than 84 to qualify for the Super Eights.
Rob Quiney (0), Aiden Blizzard (6) and David Hussey (7) failed to make much impact as Victoria crawled to 45-3 after 11 overs.
But opening batsman Hodge stood firm with 44 not out off 52 balls and a late flourish from Andrew McDonald (27no) - including 18 off the 18th over bowled by leg-spinner Kaushal Lokuarachchi (0-18) - ensured the Australians were never in danger of elimination.
