Delhi Daredevils beat Cape Cobras by 30 runs

The Delhi Daredevils ensured they finished the Champions League Twenty20 in positive fashion as they inflicted a first defeat on the Cape Cobras.

Having batted first and made a modest 114-6, the IPL outfit recorded a 30-run victory as they bowled out their South African opponents for just 84 - the lowest score of the tournament to date.

Dirk Nannes was particularly impressive for Delhi as he finished with figures of 3-19, while spinners Amit Mishra, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Yogesh Nagar all claimed two apiece.

Having lost the toss and been inserted, the Daredevils made a poor start as Cobras quickie Rory Klienveldt dismissed both opening batsmen, Dilshan and Gautam Gambhir, in his first over.

Dinesh Karthik helped steady the ship and was given some support by Manoj Tiwary (19) before the latter was bowled by Claude Henderson in his first over.

Karthik was joined at the crease by England's Owais Shah, but the partnership was worth just two when a mix-up saw Karthik run out and returning to the pavilion for 23.

But Shah went some way for atoning for his part in the misunderstanding as he played a steady hand to see his side up to and beyond the 100 mark.

Indeed, he helped inject a bit of momentum towards the end of the innings as he lofted Justin Ontong for his side's only six and finished on 39 not out.

That looked score looked someway insufficient, but the Daredevils bowlers performed superbly to defend it with some aplomb.

Dilshan, handed the new ball, provided the early breakthrough removing Herschelle Gibbs for a golden duck and Nannes then sent down a fiery first spell, bowling Andrew Puttick with one that skidded through quite low.

But with Henry Davids and tournament top-scorer JP Duminy at the crease, the Cobras look to be weathering the storm.

But Davids was run out and his dismissal sparked an alarming collapse as leg-spinner Mishra struck twice in an over to send back the dangerous Duminy and the big-hitting Klienveldt, leaving the Cobras reeling at 57 for five.

Dilshan then returned to bowl Ontong before Nannes destroyed the tail with two wickets in his final over as the Daredevils eased to victory.

However, the win was nothing more than a consolation for Delhi with the Indian side already out of the tournament, unlike the Cobras who have advanced to the semi-finals where thye will play Trinidad & Tobago.
