THQ signs eight-year WWE deal

Publisher keeps wrestling rights and reaches a settlement over WWE toys and games
THQ and World Wrestling Entertainment have inked a new eight-year deal giving THQ the exclusive worldwide rights make games based WWE content, effective January 1, 2010.

"This agreement ensures that WWE games will continue to be an important cornerstone of THQ's annual release schedule for the long term," said Brian Farrell, THQ President. "We look forward to working directly with WWE to expand their brand in the video game space through continued game play innovation and increased online delivery of WWE content."

Donna Goldsmith, WWE chief operating officer, added, "As one of the most successful video game brands, WWE is excited to work directly with THQ to translate WWE's colorful characters and ever-changing content into exciting and fresh video games for our fans."

THQ and JAKKS Pacific have also reached settlement agreements over WWE video game and toy licenses and the THQ/JAKKS Pacific LLC joint venture.

Under the three-party settlement, all claims are withdrawn and all litigation ended among the parties without any party admitting any wrongdoing. As part of the resolution of these matters, THQ will pay WWE $13.2 million.

Lets hope the games get better then.

Well think this and UFC are 2 of a few things that keeps THQ alive... so guess great for them and us gaming heads Smile

BUT they need to fix the WWE games BIG STYLE! Still to this day, WWF No Mercy on the N64 is the best and most realistic wrestling game... OFF ALL TIME!! Get AKI to make them again Rolling Eyes

Yep the AKI games were far more enjoyable. Though the Wii version of 2009 showed promise and made wrestling fun to play again. I don't for the life of me understand the lame PS2 port Wii got this year - minus the great online mode aswell.

THQ need to be building on the Wii 2009 game, add motion plus moves, include Wii Speak for online and your onto a winner. Or better still get AKI to make the Wii version Wink

I also own a 360 but pretty graphics do not a fun game make! I find them slow, dull and monotonous! They feel dated and awkward, and again a big overhaul is needed to re-fresh the series!

Ahhhh happy days. I still need to get a non-bugged copy of No Mercy. I remember waking up at 4am on xmas morning in 2000, couldnt get back to sleep (yes I was an excited 15 year old back then) so I played through and won the womans championship only to later have all my data deleted Sad

Never liked no mercy thought the controls were to slow trying to fight more than 2 people was painfull.

Always preferred smackdown myself but they do need to change the game play now its a bit stale.

wwe is a dieing brand in 5 years or less tna will lead the way lol whactha gonna do hulka maniacs?
dorian2011 on 23 Dec '09
Don't bring your fangirl wars here dorian2011. I am a fan of wrestling and watch both. This is going off topic though as this is about the game and as far as I know theres not a good TNA game.

A lot could be done with WWE games but they just need to fix the gameplay first. It seems every year they put more carpets over the cracks and they will keep doing it because fangirls buy it. I already know 2011 will be a rent for me because I don't think they have time to fix the game. Bringing one out every year is never good without the base game first. Shocked
wwinterj on 23 Dec '09
wwe has lost a lot of quality all there wrestlers are stupid such as john cena lmao and rumour has it that the hardy bros are coming to tna along with RVD and goldberg lol
dorian2011 on 23 Dec '09
IBest most enjoyable and fun WWF/WWE game on PS2 was Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain and RAW vs Smackdown 2007.

WWF No Mercy was but slow because it was all about tactics. Not fantic button bashing like the games on the PS2, XBOX. etc
It was the first WWE game to add the weight mechanism and visible body damage to the wrestlers. This didnt happen on next gen til 5th Smackdown game....!!
Reason why I play it to this day... UNTIL ALL THE DATA GOT DELETED! Feel your pain Slatters Rolling Eyes lucky I have 2 copies of the game Laughing

WWE aint a dieing brand! They are very clever you see Idea ... They know for a fact that adults are hardly watching it anymore like they use to so they are now strictly PG because kids are there main market now, which mean more cash money!

All honesty they have both great wrestlers BUT WWE wont allow there wrestlers to do what TNA ones do BUT of they did WWE would kill TNA... OR/AND IF TNA had the decent storylines like WWE, TNA would be tearing up WWE bottom!
