The Texas Embassy Bar

In one of the nicer parts of town, the Texas Embassy sits just outside the brash crowds that populate more commercial eateries such as Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe. Maybe this is why it saw fit to set up a Mexican parlour with the same tourist attracting template and proceed to rain down on customers with terrible service, cold foods and a t-shirt about your experience for £15. The restaurant bar combo is based on two floors in what is a fairly large building. The downstairs is muddled with varying tables and up the heavy wooden stairs is a larger bar area, live music from a couple of well talented solo performers throughout the night who barely get a glance by the stuck up teenage crowds that populate the hall. In the centre is a pool table and a large bar accommodates the window space but although its stock appeals to the eyes its selection is worse than poor with many simple requests being returned with a “sorry we only stock that in the bar downstairs, despite the horde of posters”, from what i could work out the only drink you could get from the upstairs bar, in its magnificence, was a hot glass of crushed ice. The venue focuses on its foods which, although look tantalizing, are over-expense and the service is slow, insulting and degrading to the diner who finds them-self eating cold fajitas off the table where plates are out-right not provided.

Overall a venue that remains quiet enough to have an expensive, poorly managed experience before heading up to a more fitting club on Haymarket. I also felt it important to point out that, yes, the waiting staff are so useless that one can easily walk in, order a drink to be billed to a random table number, drink it at the bar and then leave; so some good points there - 3/10
