Girls Go Geek with Felicia Day & Kathleen Zuelch

For the past couple of months, I've been working with my team at MGImedia.ca to produce and host a series on Xbox LIVE in the U.S.  Four weeks after each show "airs" on LIVE, we're featuring it on our own site called Girls Go Geek.  It's been loads of fun doing this series, mostly because I get a chance to officially geek out with some of the finest ladies in the biz.  Check out our first two shows, pasted below for your viewing pleasure.  Please feel free to share the episodes, just so we can all get the word out about these amazing ladies.

Which hard drive is right for you?

Hello friends.  Wow, can't believe it is already September.  Time is a flyin'.  If you didn't get a chance to get caught up on this week's tech headlines, take a few minutes to get your weekly commandN update below.  Aside from talking hard drives, we also stalk data-packin' pigeons and track Facebook's diet.  Enjoy the show!  -A

Exploiting Chaos - Free Download for AmberMac.com readers!

My friend Jeremy Gutsche has done it again.  Aside from running a successful trend hunter website and kicking butt on the speaking circuit, he has now authored one of the most innovative books I've seen in years.

Unlike your typical business book, Exploiting Chaos contains colourful stories and strategies to rise to the top during these unsettled times.  For a web-savvy person like myself, Jeremy's book is like diving into an interactive ocean of cool graphics, stunning stats, and compelling content.

Since JG and I are buddies (well, this is the first time I've called him JG!), he's offered up a free chapter download to anyone landing here on AmberMac.com.  I know once you take a peek at the free PDF, you'll want to pick up your own copy of Exploiting Chaos (and yell "hooray" - or may w00t - for the end of boring business reads).

Facefeed For All and Nerd Boyfriend Gifts

Well, I think the title says it all.  Last week the news about Facebook acquiring FriendFeed hit the web.  Also, I found out where to buy my nerd boyfriend a great gift (I use the term nerd with the utmost respect ;).  Check out the most recent episode of commandN, complete with bloopers!

My new Xbox LIVE show - Girls Go Geek

When I first started co-hosting Call for Help on G4TechTV with Leo Laporte in 2004, I definitely felt a little like a lone wolf.  Although there were a few women online showcasing their technolust (if I can steal a term from my good friends at Hak5), girl geeks were not the norm.

Today, six years later, I can't keep up with the number of women in technology, gaming, and science who are making a huge difference in the geek world and beyond.  My plan over the next few months is to introduce you to some of them, thanks to a production deal my company, MGImedia, just signed with Microsoft in the U.S.

Starting the first week of August, Girls Go Geek will hit Xbox LIVE.  Each week I'll chat with a girl guest about her craft, whether she is dominating the gaming world, leading the way in the web video world, or making headlines in the technology world.  I'll also present a weekly segment featuring Xbox 360 tips, tricks, and tools.

Although the video show will highlight many lovely ladies, the content will be geared towards both guys and gals.  In other words, Girls Go Geek is geared towards anyone and everyone who is interested in weekly geek speak.

For some of you who do not have an Xbox, MGImedia will eventually be posting each episode online after it first airs on Xbox LIVE.  Episode One will feature an interview with The Guild's Felicia Day, who is as smart and charming in person as she is in her award-winning online show.

Girls Go Geek would not be possible without the support of the U.S. Air Force, and, of course, Microsoft.  Closer to home, thank you to the amazing MGImedia team and partners (Chris, Jeff, Marc, Ravi, and Jill, and our friends in Charlottetown, including silverorange, for helping us get the first episode out the door.  Also, much thanks to George, Scott, and Jamie.

If you have ideas for future guests or segments, please email me at amber@girlsgogeek.tv.

I Want My MTV

The title of this blog post is totally random.  With the prevalence of Twitter in our lives, I do believe that blogs are important but they definitely do not carry the same weight that they did, say, five years ago.  For that reason, I've decided to experiment all my upcoming blog titles (or maybe I'm doing this because it's *way* late and my imagined creativity is getting the best of me).

Whatever the reason, I really just wanted to post our commandN episode from last week.  It is one of my favourite episodes this year, mostly because I'm in my hometown (Ch'town, PEI) and we streamed live on Leo Laporte's TWiT.tv while we were shooting (so it wasn't so lonely in front of the camera).  Also, we shot at my parents Market on PEI (@bestofpeiMarket on Twitter), so it was great to share that special spot with our fans.  Alrighty, that's all from me.  Enjoy the show! Oh, and last but not least, Chris does a great job bouncing what little light we had on this week's show!

Happy Canada Day & Ch'town Tweet-Up

Happy Canada Day to everyone who is celebrating today.  I'm planning to head out with the fam to watch the fireworks on our boat, should be great fun.  Oh, forgot to mention, I'm in Charlottetown (as I am every year for this splendid holiday).  Since we're only here a couple of times a year, we've decided to host a tweet-up Monday, July 6th at the bestofpei Market (which my parents own).  If you're on the Island or in the area, please join us (if you've never attended a tweet-up before, don't worry, it's just an excuse to get together and geek out over some drinks!).

Charlottetown Tweet-Up Info Here (Please RSVP)

Also, we shot commandN in Charlottetown last night, show should be online soon enough (I'll post 'er here!).

Win a high-tech wheelbarrow for your Dad

Hello Internet friends.  After a whirlwind 24-hour trip, I just stepped off a plane from Dallas.  Much thanks to the folks at the MPI Annual Chapter Leadership Conference for inviting me to speak.  Although it was an early start this Saturday morning, you were a great crowd (I owe a few of you emails, stay tuned!).

Now on to the business of Father's Day.  We just announced a contest on commandN for anyone in Canada or the U.S.  Thanks to Canadian Tire, you have a chance to win a super high-tech wheelbarrow for your papa.  All you have to do is shoot a commandN web pick, on your web cam or camcorder (telling us about your favourite website).  Next Tuesday (12pm ET), we'll pick a winner and ship off your gift. Good luck!
