Edmonton will hold race in 2010

Edmonton confirms: IndyCar Series event on – despite not being profitable in 2009 and 2008.
Edmonton will stage its IndyCar Series event in July next year after the city council unanimously voted to honour the final year of its three-year deal with the Indy Racing League.

The event had been in doubt after organisers lost $3.9 million this season and $5.3 million in 2008.

"Every councillor realises that we can't be a city that doesn't honour our commitments," Councillor Kim Krushell told TSN.CA. "Yes, we're moving forward with 2010. Are we happy about losing dollars? No."

Edmonton mayor Stephen Mandel meanwhile added that the losses in 2010 should be less, he also predicted that a new agreement could be reached for 2011, as the race is a 'valuable tourist attraction'.

The event at Edmonton City Centre Airport is scheduled for July 25, one week after the round in Toronto.
