Extracurricular Activities

Virtually every academic department sponsors an out-of-class activity, such as language clubs, an aeronautics and astronautics club, and computer clubs and several engineering clubs to support the majors program.

There are other recreation and athletic clubs including such varied activities as trap and skeet, martial arts, and white-water canoeing. Additionally, there are student publications such as the "Howitzer" yearbook, a monthly cadet magazine, "The Pointer," and a small handbook for incoming freshmen called "Bugle Notes." The Academy also operates a fully equipped FM radio station, WKDT, that is cadet-staffed. The Cadet Glee Club is one of the best in the nation, and there is a Gospel Choir and other chapel choirs for cadets to join. A Theater Arts Guild presents annual music, stage productions written, produced, and performed by cadets.

The Cadet Fine Arts Forum is one of the largest clubs at West Point. It offers cadets a chance to cultivate interests in dance, theater, photography, painting, films, and music. Eisenhower Hall Theater is a show-case for big name entertainment, attracting national recording artists and Broadway shows such as South Pacific, Cats, A Chorus Line, and Singing in the Rain.

Cadet extracurricular activities are a vibrant and essential aspect of community life at West Point. These activities offer cultural enrichment and serve as a pleasant change of pace from academic and military training.
