About Region 5 Field Services Section

The Region 5, Superfund Division, Field Services Section (FSS) provides assistance to U.S. EPA staff, State and Local Government Agencies, and Indian Tribal Communities, to accomplish the goal of the Superfund and Oil Spill programs to protect public health and the environment. Assistance provided is varied and includes both technical and administrative activities.

Geophysical Equipment

Geophysical Support

FSS can provide technical assistance, field support, and oversight in the use of geophysical methods in the characterization of hazardous waste, oil spill, and Brownfield sites.

Superfund Training

FSS staff coordinates with the U.S. EPA Environmental Response Training (ERT) Program and the CERCLA Education Center (CEC) Exit EPA disclaimer to bring programmatic and technical training to the Region.

Direct Push Equipment

Direct Push TechnologiesExit EPA disclaimer

FSS is available to collect soil and water samples using direct push technologies (DPT). Conventional drilling operations for installation of monitoring wells to depths of 25 feet are also available

Quality Assurance

FSS staff review and approve quality assurance project plans to ensure that all data collection activities are covered by appropriate documentation.

Aerial Photography

FSS staff works with the U.S. EPA Environmental Photo Interpretation Center (EPIC) to arrange for current aerial photography and historic aerial photographic interpretation reports. Special requests can be accommodated.
