A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Newswire Deja vu all over again: New Animal Collective video is cool and weird

This has become something of a routine: Animal Collective releases a new video from Merriweather Post Pavilion, and we step in to utter variations on "Woah, this is great and what exactly is going on?" But what a routine!

This time it's for a new video for "Brothersport," directed by Jack Kubizne and featuring a backwoods dude strung out on moonshine, some kids running around in costumes, a turtle, a dog with a big tongue, a funky chicken, and lots of psychedelic splatter involving eggs and paint (among many other things).

Animal Collective's ongoing dalliance with visuals has only been growing more serious in time—they even have a film premiering soon at Sundance—so add this new one to the coffers. And for those who might find themselves in Manhattan tonight, remember that Animal Collective is playing a group DJ set tonight at the American Museum of Natural History, underneath the big planetarium sphere.
