It’s been a long 2009 for Tyler Black. Fighting through a neck injury, and eventual surgery, as well as the overall frustration heaped on his shoulders in his dealings with Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries. One of those demons was put to rest earlier this year when Black ended his vendetta against Jacobs at “Violent Tendencies” and sent him packing from Ring of Honor at “End of An Age”. But the other has persisted, and proved to be a much bigger thorn in Tyler’s side, stabbing at him at every opportunity, most recently in Edison, NJ when Aries, Kenny King, and Rhett Titus attempted a 3-on-1 assault on Black.
Despite that ever annoying thorn, Tyler hasn’t taken a direct loss in nearly 6 months. Since returning from neck surgery he has been on a tear, picking up victories over Chris Hero and Kenny King in his first two singles matches back. Tyler went on to better five of ROH’s best and win the “Survival of the Fittest 2009” tournament in Indianapolis, thereby cementing himself a future shot at the ROH World Title. Tyler’s roll then continued with victories over Claudio Castagnoli and Sonjay Dutt, as well as a win over Aries and King in tag team action, and he’s currently ranked Number 4 in the ROH/HDNet Pick 6 Contenders Series.
After careful consideration, ROH officials have awarded Tyler Black his ROH World Title match on December 19th at “Final Battle 2009” in New York City! Black still has to contend with Kenny King in a “Pick 6” match on 12/5 in the Windy City, but that outcome will not impact his Final Battle title match as he won SOTF before the Pick 6 Series was implemented. Rest assured, however, that King wants nothing more than to beat Black senseless and take his spot in the Pick 6 before he makes it to New York.
The only question is who Black will be facing that cold December night. Austin Aries still has a championship match on tap versus Colt Cabana when ROH returns to Chicago Ridge on 12/5, and there is still a possibility of the winner of that contest defending the title when ROH returns to Manassas, VA on 12/18. The picture will become much clearer after 12/5, but one thing is for certain, Tyler Black will challenge whomever may be the ROH World Champion at “Final Battle 2009”, and it could very well mean an early Christmas present for the young man from Davenport, Iowa.Tickets are on sale right here at www.rohwrestling.com for both “Final Battle 2009” on 12/19 as well as the previous night in Manassas, VA.
