iPhone sold 1.6m in first week – Nexus One just 20k

A report comparing the first week’s sales of Google’s Nexus One against the iPhone, ain’t no contest.

The figures come from handset usage and tracking company Flurry, whose data suggests the Googlephone shifted as few as 20,000 units compared to 1.6 million iPhones in their respective first weeks.

The data was not gleaned from Google’s own spreadsheets but does suggest a poor showing from the search giants when comparing previous Flurry reports.

They had sales of myTouch by T-Mobile at 60,000 in its first week and the Motorola Droid at 250,000 so even in context Apple bosses will be pleased.

The limited and confusing availability of the Nexus One and this being Google’s first venture into hardware sales can absorb most of the blame.

Conversely, the iPhone was immediately available in eight countries and could be bought online or on the high street.

We’re not comparing like with like because of the nature of the release of Nexus One, but it’s still got to be a kick in the stones for Google
