Diamond Comic Distributors has announced that this year’s Free Comic Book Day will get its first ever commemorative t-shirt coming directly from Sergio Aragones.
“We wanted to create a unique annual event T-shirt and who better to start with than Sergio?” commented FCBD spokesperson Elissa Lynch. “We think he’s done a beautiful job of capturing the excitement and personalities found in comic shops and on Free Comic Book Day.”
“I’m very proud, of course,” said Sergio about being the first FCBD artist. “The art is not based on any one comic book shop, it is my imagination—it is how I think shops look like, full of young readers, moms, super heroes reading and buying comics.”
Expect the T-Shirt to be available in April 2010.

As we mentioned on Friday, DC took seven of the Top 10 spots for the month of November, even though the House of Ideas was able to take the Market Share top spot. Now that we’ve seen the Top 10, Major Spoilers is offering up a look at the Top 300 comics for the month. Remember, you can click on the column header for each category to sort. For example, if you click on the Price Column, you’ll see that the least expensive comic for the month was Harvey Comics Vampirella Second Coming #3, which placed 160th on the list. Clicking the column again, will reverse the sort order revealing Lobo Highway to Hell #1 was the most expensive title in the Top 300 at $6.99, which placed 120th on the list.

After successful events in Baltimore, MD; Ft. Wayne, IN; Las Vegas, NV and elsewhere, Diamond “takes the show on the road” to the Windy City when a new version of the Diamond Retailer Summit berths at one of the industry’s most anticipated events: C2E2, a.k.a. the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo.
“After a great show in Las Vegas in 2008 and in Baltimore 2009, we recognize the need to bring the Summit and its retailer programming to other parts of the country,” said Diamond’s VP-Marketing, Roger Fletcher. “This allows us to see more of our retailer accounts and interact with them on a professional level. And we can’t think of a better venue than Reed Exhibition’s new C2E2 show in Chicago.”
DC captured seven of the Top 10 comics sold to the direct market in November. Long before Star Wars featured Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and the rest, George Lucas envisioned a completely different battle in the stars, and even went so far as to have Ralph McQuarrie whip up some character concepts. Those who have the Making Of… books have seen these designs floating around since the mid-80’s, but now, Star Wars fans can actually get their hands on actual action figures based on those designs.
These sets are exclusives with Diamond Comic Distributors and Toys R Us, and have been out since the beginning of the month. Those who are really looking for a unique gift for their geek, might want to dig around a bit to secure the figures from these two sets.
Set 1 includes McQuarrie’s versions of Han Solo (who bears more than a passing resemblance to a young George Lucas), Chewbacca, Obi Wan Kenobi & Yoda, C-3PO & R2-D2, and Boba Fett. Set 2 features Concept takes on Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, Rebel Trooper and “The Starkiller Hero,” a character that evolved into both Luke Skywalker and his sister, Princess Leia, in the final draft of the first script.
I wonder if I’ll find the Starkiller Hero in my stocking this year, or if I’m going to get another lump of coal?

Diamond Comic Distributors released the full list of the top selling comics for September 2009. We’ve already broken down the market share in our last installment, and present here the raw information of the comics based on total sales for the month. It should be noted that these numbers do include issues reprinted issues. I also find it nice to see Atomic Robo on the list and hope it continues to climb the charts.
Press Release
Over 600 retailers converged on the Baltimore Convention Center for the 2009 Diamond/Alliance Retailer Summit, bringing together the specialty market’s leading retailers, vendors, creators and distributors for two days of workshops, seminars, and a lively Exhibit Hall.
“This is my first Summit, and I like it,” said Douglas Spark of Lancaster, PA’s The Comic Store. “I enjoyed all the presentations I went to, and I picked up something helpful from all of them.”
