PocketNews® Alerts

With PocketNews, you can receive regular SMS and MMS Alerts on news and information that is relevant to you and your lifestyle. Receive quarter-by-quarter scores for your favourite football team, find out where the big waves are breaking, and much more.

Alerts are charged at 30c per SMS message or 75c per MMS message.  You will be charged 30c for each SMS that you send to subscribe and unsubscribe to alerts.

Some alerts may contain links to the BigPond mobile site. Standard browsing data charges apply to 2G customers who click on these links. The content is free to browse for Next G and 3G customers.

How do I set up Alerts?
There are three easy methods to set up PocketNews Alerts:
1. Via the ‘Alerts’ link on the BigPond ‘Home’ tab on most Telstra 3G or Next G ™ mobiles,
2. By sending a code (as per table below) to 176 on your Telstra mobile, or
3. Via the PocketNews Alerts website.

1. Subscribe via the BigPond Home tab on most Telstra 3G or Next G ™ mobiles

Go to the BigPond Home tab on your Telstra 3G or Next G ™ mobile.
You’ll find the ‘Alerts’ link on the list of menu items.
Click on the Alerts link, choose the Alert you wish to subscribe to and then follow the prompts.

2. Send a code to 176 on most Telstra mobiles

You can setup Alerts on your phone by simply sending an SMS to the number 176 containing an Alert activation code.
For example, to get an SMS sent to you every morning with the weather forecast in Sydney, send “on.wea.syd” to 176.

3. Setup Alerts online now.

Setting up Alerts via the web provides greater flexibility, such as the ability to personalise SMS delivery times,
or receive Alerts only when a specific event occurs (e.g. only notify me when my stock reaches $6.40).
When setting up or accessing Alerts via the web you will be required to login and register your mobile phone number.
