FIX: You cannot scroll through a Web page or visit a link by using a .NET Compact Framework 3.5-based application that hosts a WebBrowser control in Windows Mobile 6.1.4 or in Windows Mobile 6.5

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenerio. You run a .NET Compact Framework 3.5-based application on a Windows Mobile device or on a Windows Mobile device emulator. This application hosts a System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser control. Then, the application loads an HTML page that contains multiple links. In this scenerio, you experience the following issues:
  • You cannot scroll through the links by using the Navigation button. Instead, you are able to unexpectedly move the entire Web page you visit.
  • When you press the Command button, you cannot open a specified link.
This problem occurs in Windows Mobile 6.1.4 and in Windows Mobile 6.5. Additionally, in Windows Mobile 6.5, the horizontal and vertical scroll bars do not appear.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a wrapper around the Shdocvw.dll file. You notice this problem when you use the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser control in the .NET Compact Framework 3.5.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create a user control that is based on the Webview.dll native control and on the Htmlview.dll native control.
