This "Virtual Reality" theater is a tri-torii shaped inflatable space. This project spatializes projection in order to completely envelop the viewer in virtual realms. Video, or 3D graphics projected onto predistortion mirrors which reflect a compensated images on to the exterior as well as inside of the column/holes, to create the illusion that there are forms solid in the space as well as panoramic views around the viewer. The shape of the space is meant to disorient the participant as they journey through the space, and simulates actual travelled space in that the viewer must actually walk around inside the inflated skin (as opposed to using a joy stick). Depending on the path participants make through the space, they trigger different kinds of projected scenarios.

There are four phases to the project:

Phase 1.0

Is a CAVE simulator test model. The virtual maquette was modeled in Maya and programmed in Ygdrasil with much help from Benjamin Chang and Todd Margolis. Modeling and realizing this form virtually shows how video projection will work on the actual piece, and how the audience might experience it.

Phase 2.0

Is a small physical model. I used formZ to pattern the piece for construction.

Phase 3.0

Is the same but made at one third scale for cats. This is the current phase in production and will be shown for my thesis exhibition. If you know of a cat you would like to bring to see this piece please email me so that I can let you know when I am ready to make appointments.

Phase 4.0

The human version is awaiting funding, I have devised a way to make the form seamless and I would like to use stereoscopic projection so that you really wont be able to see the walls at all, but just the 3 dimesional forms.
