Exclusive: 'Smallville' movie gets a title!

Categories: News, Smallville

It’s official: Smallville’s upcoming two-hour Justice Society-centric “movie” is now an actual movie.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that The CW has jettisoned the separate titles that were initially assigned to each of the two episodes — “Society” and “Legends,” respectively — in favor of the singularly sensational (and far more marketable) Smallville: Absolute Justice.

What’s more, I hear the movie — which marks the debut of Michael Shanks as Hawkman (pictured) — will air as a seamless two-hour event with only one set of credits.

By the way, the air date for Smallville: Absolute Justice was recently changed from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5. Adjust your schedules accordingly.

    • Rebecca

It’s still one word per hour. So it works, right?

  • robinepowell

  • jordan

I like it. One question: since the episode is being called a TV movie, is it going to get a higher budget?

    • Rene

Can’t remember where it was posted but yes it is getting a beefed up budget.

  • smallfan

Smallville: Absolute Justice will rock!! thanks ausiello!

  • Tyson

Yes Jordan, I heard that the CW did increase it’s budget for this TV movie event.

Excellent news! Thanks Ausiello! I’m glad it’s got a movie feel going on! Can’t wait!

  • David

YES! Thanks so much for the continued news on this huge television event, Ausiello.

  • Pop

    Good news! Thanks:)

  • Shella

    Nice one. I can’t wait :)

  • Kevin

Thanks! Justice? I find little on Smallville which rather than payoff for the character who earns it, it’s given to someone who did not.
Geoff Johns seems to respect the Smallville canon, so hopefully this is worth watching.

    • Carrie

The thing is, there was already an episode called Justice only a few years back – which makes this choice mindboggling to me.

I’ve been a huge Smallville fan from the start but sadly, I think the series needs to die. There’s no more life that they can milk out of it at this point. Smallville teenager Clark Kent is no longer coming into his own anymore. With the obvious exception that he still can’t fly and hasn’t donned red and blue tights with a cape yet (though he wears the “S” shield now) there’s no new powers to discover anymore. Long gone are my geeky comic-fan references to other DC heroes or cities. Now we, the viewers, are subjected to lame, “second rate” character insertions and references. Seriously, the Wonder Twins? Come on people! And Chloe’s reference to the “Halls of Justice” in last weeks episode left me with one feeling. Lame!

The only reason I keep watching is I hope it will get better again, but sadly, even Superman can’t pull out of this tailspin without hitting the Earth at breakneck speed without being able to stop himself.

Mike, I respect that you feel this way but I respectfully disagree with you. I’ve been alongtime fan from the beginning and yes I also read the comics. I think Season 9 has been the strongest season to date. If anything, the show feels like it has a renewed life to it and I’ve really been enjoying this season. I feel like we are really in the heart of Clark’s journey to become a hero. We are finally getting the payoff we have waited so long for. To end things now would be very sad indeed for many fans. If you don’t like it anymore, then don’t watch it. There are thousands of other things on TV and life is too short to waste time watching something that you don’t like when there are so many other options. But please be aware that your opinion does not speak for all of the fans. There are many of us that are really enjoying the show and the direction it has taken this season. Honestly, I understand that sometimes people just want to share…but I do question why people spend so much time talking about a show that they admit to not enjoying. Life is so short. Why not just find something else to watch and let those of us that DO enjoy it….enjoy it?

        Mary

        it’s called hateorade

Mike just had his dose when writing the article lol, no problem lol

    • darrin

      mike – nobody asked you

      • Jane

do you have a problem darrin? mike can express his opinion however he likes, because its his opinion. he doesn’t like the show anymore, get over it. i enjoyed reading his opinion but yours was just stupid. if you can’t handle what other people say then don’t come here.

      • Ella

Jane, you are correct that everyone has a right to express their opinion and I agree that darrin could have phrased his response better. But I do think it gets tiring to see people bash a show that they admit to no longer watching. It does seem as though if you don’t watch a show anymore or don’t like it, then it seems a waste of time to come on here and criticize the people who do. So just as Mike has the right to not like the show anymore, he also has the free will to do just that: NOT WATCH IT. And those of us that DO stil like it, have the right to feel annoyed that we constantly have to be criticized by people who admit they no longer watch the show.

      • Rebecca

Just to be fair, Ella, Mike didn’t say he doesn’t watch the show. He says he watches it but has started not to enjoy it.

I personally didn’t like the Wonder Twins episode that much, though I don’t feel like Mike does. I found it the weakest episode of what is otherwise an excellent seaeson.

  • Bobby’s Robot

    Can’t wait!

  • Elisabeth

Fabulous title (and news). I can’t wait. The movie idea is really pretty cool. Can’t wait to see how it all pans out. It’s going to be sweeet!

  • Ellis

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa! This so cool! Ausiello, will we be seeing a preview for this movie on Friday?
