Yemen: thousands displaced by conflict in just a few months
Five months have passed since the latest round of fighting erupted in the north of Yemen. Amid deteriorating conditions, it is becoming increasingly difficult to reach those who need aid. Nevertheless, the ICRC and the Yemen Red Crescent are pressing ahead with their humanitarian activities.

ICRC president calls for kidnapped staff members to be released unharmed
The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, has called for the safe, unconditional and immediate release of ICRC staff members Gauthier Lefèvre, who was kidnapped in West Darfur, Sudan, on 22 October 2009, and Laurent Maurice, seized in eastern Chad on 9 November 2009.

Geneva: canton pledges support for victims of "forgotten conflicts"
Geneva (ICRC) – At a ceremony held on 30 November at the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Laurent Moutinot, a member of Geneva's Conseil d'État (cantonal government), and Jakob Kellenberger, the ICRC's president, signed an agreement under which the canton will provide financial support of three million Swiss francs per year to the ICRC during the period 2010-2013.
