Monsters of Folk Not Making New LP

And Conor Oberst isn't on Twitter Monsters of Folk Not Making New LP

Despite various reports, supergroup Monsters of Folk are not currently working on a follow-up to their self-titled debut, which came out in September. The source for this story was a pretty obviously fake Conor Oberst Twitter account, which was definitely fake according to the band's publicist. And has since been removed.

But in related (and refreshingly real) news, M. Ward's second album with Zooey Deschanel as She & Him is out March 23 on Merge, and Jim James just started his own record label.

A-Trak Not Working With Madonna

The DJ debunks the rumors A-Trak Not Working With Madonna

This week, reports have been circulating that DJ, producer, and onetime Kanye West sideman A-Trak would contribute production to the next Madonna album. Speculation started when A-Trak's buddy DJ Mehdi dropped the bomb in an interview with Dummy, and it's since spread.

But in a new statement, A-Trak debunks the rumor, explaining that Mehdi was just kidding the whole time.

David Bowie Tribute Album Planned

David Bowie Tribute Album Planned

Last summer, reports circulated that Radiohead would cover David Bowie on a forthcoming Bowie tribute album. Those reports turned out to be false, but that Bowie tribute album is still on the way.

The as-yet-untitled tribute, due for a May release on Manimal Vinyl, will be a benefit for the War Child organization, which helps kids whose lives have been affected by war. It'll be available on CD, limited edition double-LP, and download, the last of which will feature bonus tracks.

Even without Radiohead, the alleged lineup, according to Manimal, is pretty impressive. Duran Duran covers "Boys Keep Swinging", French first lady Carla Bruni takes on "Absolute Beginners", and Devendra Banhart's Megapuss project contribute a Spanish-language version of "Sound + Vision". Not too many compilations feature Carla Bruni back-to-back with Megapuss! Vivian Girls, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Soulwax also take part.

MGMT were originally slated to contribute, but now it's not clear whether they'll be on it or not. We've got the tentative tracklist below:

Characteristically Freaky New Animal Collective Video: "Brother Sport"

This is a weird one, folks Characteristically Freaky New Animal Collective Video: "Brother Sport"

It's hard to tell what, exactly, is going on in director Jack Kubizne's video for Animal Collective's "Brother Sport", our #23 track of 2009. At certain points, the hallucinatory clip is the story of two modern-primitive kids and a dog, who tear around a trailer park and stage a fingerpainting rave in a backwoods hut. At other points, it's a particularly acid-fried take on vintage 1970s Saturday morning cartoons. And for one particularly queasy stretch, it's a montage of multicolored black-lit eggs falling from the sky.

In other words, it's an Animal Collective video, and you're going to stop whatever you're doing and watch it right now.

Hear Carl Craig's Remix of Hot Chip's "One Life Stand"

Hear Carl Craig's Remix of Hot Chip's "One Life Stand"

If you've been checking this space regularly, you've already heard the title track to One Life Stand, the new Hot Chip album. (It'll be out February 9 via Astralwerks in North America and a day earlier in the UK courtesy of Parlophone.) "One Life Stand" is a shivery, downbeat sigh of a track, but it doesn't remain that way for long once Carl Craig gets his hands on it. The Detroit techno grandmaster has remixed "One Life Stand" into a 10 minute monster jam; you won't even hear Alexis Taylor's vocals until around the six-minute mark.

Go to Spinner to stream Carl Craig's PCP Remix of "One Life Stand". And if you're really into Hot Chip remixes, check out Joris Voorn's "One Life Stand" remix over at Drowned in Sound.
