Joanna Newsom Album Confirmed!
Front page photo by Paul O'Valle
Yes! It's true! The new Joanna Newsom album is indeed called Have One on Me and it's out February 23!
Newsom's Australian label, Spunk, just broke the news. (The album is out February 19 in Australia.) UPDATE: Spunk has since removed the news.
Finally.
Thanks to Luke Telford of Australia's FBi Radio 94.5FM for the heads up.

Spoon, No Age, Shellac, Yeasayer, Atlas Sound, Fuck Buttons Join Primavera
This year's San Miguel Primavera Sound Festival, which goes down in Barcelona's Parc Del Fòrum May 27-29, was already looking like a pretty awesome festival. As previously reported, Pitchfork will once again curate a stage. And the lineup already included the likes of Pavement, Pixies, Panda Bear, New Pornographers, and Wilco. And now, the Primavera folks have announced another batch of bands that will join the fest's lineup.
New M.I.A. Video?
It sure looks like it!
Earlier this afternoon, M.I.A. posted this video on her Twitter with the words "THERES SPACE FOR OL DAT I SEE". In the video, we see M.I.A. (or someone who looks and sounds exactly like M.I.A.) singing while a kaleidoscopic green light throws different patterns of dots on her. The logo for N.E.E.T., M.I.A.'s label, also comes up at the end, and "there's space for all that I see" seems to be a lyric in the chorus, so maybe it's the song's title.
So what is this video? We haven't been able to confirm that it's a song from the new album that M.I.A.'s been talking about lately, but it definitely seems like a very good possibility. Watch it below, via the Fader:
Cure's Robert Smith, Franz Ferdinand Do Alice in Wonderland Songs
For Tim Burton's new movie
On March 5, director Tim Burton's massive 3D reboot of Alice in Wonderland will hit theaters via Disney. Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway and Crispin Glover will show up, and high school drama class set designers everywhere will be very, very excited.
On March 2, Buena Vista Records will release Almost Alice, the movie's soundtrack album. MySpace revealed the album's eyeliner-heavy tracklist today, featuring the likes of Avril Lavigne, Wolfmother, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Blink-182's Mark Hoppus, and others.
But two songs on the tracklist stand out. The Cure frontman Robert Smith will cover "Very Good Advice", one of the songs from Disney's 1951 animated Alice in Wonderland movie, while Franz Ferdinand show up with "The Lobster Quadrille".

Premiere: Ruby Suns: "Cranberry"
Plus tour with Toro Y Moi
On March 2, sunny New Zealand psych-pop outfit the Ruby Suns will release Fight Softly, the follow-up to the BNM'ed 2008 LP Sea Lion, on Sub Pop. (It's out March 8 in the UK on Memphis Industries.) That's the space-bar-averse cover art above.
Talking to Pitchfork back in October, frontman Ryan McPhun described Fight Softly as "probably the opposite" of Sea Lion: "I used a lot more synths. And there's a shitload of effected guitar on it. But I didn't use a lot of live drums. Going into it, I wanted to use organic sounds but I didn't want them to sound organic, which is the opposite of what a lot of people do. It's safe to say the new stuff is more bass-y."
Right now, we're getting our first taste of how the more bass-y Ruby Suns sound. Click below to stream or download "Cranberry" from Fight Softly. (UPDATE: The album version has been replaced with the radio edit.)
Shortly after the album hits, the Ruby Suns will tour North America, bringing glo-fi youngster Toro Y Moi along for the ride. They've also got a few New Zealand dates scheduled for next month We've got the band's full touring itinerary below.

More Joanna Newsom Album Hints
We're getting close to some actual news here.
Homepage photo by Paul O'Valle
Is the new Joanna Newsom album coming out on February 23? We can't say for sure, but a cryptic new cartoon posted on her label Drag City's website features that date in the top right hand corner. (Via Stereogum.)
The 23rd is a Tuesday; new albums usually come out on Tuesdays. And Joanna has a bunch of tour dates lined up for the next few months; tours usually go down around the same time albums come out. Plus, a new video posted on the Drag City site mentions that a new Joanna Newsom album is among the label's releases set for "the first months of the new year." (Drag City are keeping mum on details at the moment.)
Memory Tapes Plans First U.S. Shows
Plus Urban Outfitters reissues his album
Dayve Hawk, who records wistful soft-focus synthpop under his Memory Tapes alias, is something of a recluse, as Hawk himself told Pitchfork in this interview. But last month, Hawk announced a pair of British dates, the first-ever Memory Tapes shows. And now Hawk has announced a whole tour, including his first U.S. shows, which feature a run at SXSW. (He's also playing the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, one of the last places we ever expected to see hypnagogic pop's most mysterious figure).
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Alec Ounsworth Books First Headline Tour
Last year, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah frontman Alec Ounsworth struck out on his own, releasing two solo albums under two different names. Under his own name, he dropped the New Orleans jazz/funk experiment Mo Beauty on Anti-. And under his Flashy Python alter ego, he self-released Skin and Bones, an LP of more personal, indie-centric fare.
But when Ounsworth hits the road, you'll get every variation of Ounsworth there is, as he will play Alec Ounsworth songs, Flashy Python songs, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah songs. Three artists for the price of one!
Later this month, Ounsworth will open a few Cold War Kids shows. When those are done, he'll embark on his first ever solo headlining tour. We've got all those dates below.
Passion Pit Announce American Tour
Massachusetts party-starters Passion Pit are in full-on victory lap mode now that the world has had time to catch on to Manners, their dizzily fun debut album. At the moment, The band is gearing up for a New Zealand/Australia tour. When that's done, they'll hit Japan and Europe. Finally, late in March, Passion Pit will make their way back to North America for a trek with Stones Throw soul man Mayer Hawthorne opening.
When they get done with all this touring, the Passion Pit dudes should be able to say, pretty authoritatively, which of the world's cities dances the hardest. We've got all those dates below.
