Hull City Bottom of Fair Play League

By Andy Beill
Tuesday, 19th January 2010
City are currently bottom while Arsenal are top of the Premier League's Fair Play table, which is based on teams' disciplinary records and marks awarded by match delegates..

Only Bolton, who are 19th, have received less points for 'positive play'. Up to 10 points are awarded per match, and City have received 135 from 20 games played so far.

City are among the lowest scorers for 'respect towards opponents', which Bolton have again received least points for, while City's marks for 'respect towards referees' is also not particularly healthy.

Behaviour of City's officials is equal to that of Manchester City's - but only better than Bolton.

Points are also lost for bookings and sendings off. Geovanni and Bernard Mendy have both seen red this season, while Andy Dawson, Stephen Hunt, Mendy and Dean Marney each have four yellow cards to their names.

The Trotters do in fact have less points overall than City, but due to playing two games fewer their average mark is marginally better.

If the Premier League has one of the three highest Fair Play rankings in Europe, the highest ranked team in its standings qualifies for the UEFA Europa League. Judging by these current scores, and their positions in the actual league table, neither City nor Bolton can expect to be playing in Europe next season.

Meanwhile, for 'behaviour of the public' City are ranked 18th, with Portsmouth 19th and Bolton bottom.
