LittleBigPlanet: Sack it to Me – “Watchmen DLC + Bento Box” Edition

Posted by Mark Valledor // Marketing Manager, SCEA

LittleBigPlanet (PSP) – Official Release Date + Packaging Unveil:

It’s official! On November 17th, 2009, you’ll be able to take Sackboy on a completely new adventure. LittleBigPlanet (PSP) hits the store shelves and now you’ll be able to Play, Create, Share…everywhere. (We know you know, but there may be others out there…) And with a little more than a month away until release, we’re excited to unveil the North American packaging, so you know what too look for.

LBP PSP Box

NOTE: Our designers had a bit of fun with the packaging and you can proudly display your Sackboy pride at home. So if you own the original LittleBigPlanet (PS3) or LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition (PS3), you can “wonder twin powers, activate” a mini-mural for your display. (Please forgive my blurry camera phone pics…but you get the idea.)

What’s New in LittleBigPlanet (PSP)?

As we ramp up for launch, we’re getting a lot of questions asking about LBP (PSP) and wanted to start answering them with a series of posts to provide more in-depth details about the game. For our first post, we decided to refresh you with our very first trailer…enjoy!

PS – Send us your questions so we have more topics to discuss!

LBP (PS3): Game of the Year Edition – User Spotlight

In the LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition, one of the bonus levels features an intricately designed tank with an equally fun level, which will have you on an adventure to clear a path for your uber-armed vehicle. Thanks Sean for making such a cool level and sharing your story with us.

You can find Sean’s and other bonus levels in the LBP: Game of the Year Edition. For those of you who have the original LBP and want to play these bonus levels…

Workshop of the Week:

Our friends over at the LittleBigWorkshop have left some detailed step-by-step instructions on how to play the GOTY bonus levels online. Read up so you can experience these levels too!

New on the PlayStation Store:

Who Sacks the Watchmen” – Announced on Monday, and fresh on the PlayStation Store right now, is the latest batch of Sackboy costumes from Watchmen. Available on the PS Store for $5.99.

The WATCHMEN costume pack includes a ton of items including:

Community Levels!!!

Over the weekend, go check out the newest community level from our friends at LBPCentral.com.

Castle of the Witch Queen: Part One by Bercilak

Part 1:

Part 2

ConfusedCartman: This level is very well designed with an obvious emphasis on storyline, characters, and atmosphere. Not only will you be jumping on Gargoyles and hanging from conveyor belts, you’ll actually help transport an amphibian through traps and other obstacles. Interested in discovering why all of this is important? Give this level a try and find out!

Also, keep an eye out this afternoon for the latest LittleBigPodcast from our friends Daniel and Austin. This week is episode is #35 (WOW!).

***Did you know that every episode ending in 5 is their Q&A episode? They told me they get lots of e-mails from all over and they love answering them.

PLEASE don’t be the guy/gal that buys these codes on eBay when there are tons more FREE codes for the LBP community. Just check out our partners page on SonyWonder.com. Just, everyone, don’t all go there at once like last time…flash mob + internet = uncontrollable tech issues. We should be good now, but if you have any issues, please be patient, close and re-open your browser and you’ll get a new code.

I’m loving the looks of LBP PSP so far. Can’t wait to get my hands on it, will be great to be able to play one of my favorite games in LBP anywhere!

Nice job on the box art too.

Tr3p1dat10n  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 12:31 pm

No fair, I only have 1.02 in my wallet and Rorschach is 1.99. =(

Any chance of you releasing other characters, such as The Comedian and Dr. Manhattan costumes as well in the future?

Pumapayam  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 12:32 pm

I liked “Sack it to Me” when used to be about answer questions, rather than being redundant advertisements we already get on the weekly PSN update.

Where is the water DLC release date and the LONG OVERDUE ice hazard that was previewed to us?

I repeated myself before, but it seems like it aint happening.

Obviously the SITM posts evolve week to week, and while we realize our existing community wants more new updates, we still have tons of fans that aren’t as informed, so we have to cater to them too.

Have no fear, we’re working on something pretty big that will cater to our needs.

As for Water, its still in the online beta phase.

I keep asking this to no avail. What happened with the Disney themed DLC for LBP?

Hey IllinoisNukee,

Didn’t want to have you give up hope. Its still in the works with our development team. Don’t worry, you’ll hear more soon.

aliendude5300  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 12:43 pm

Gonna try to get the free DLC now, but I REALLY would love a free add-on that adds the bonus levels to the non-GOTY edition (which I already spent $60 on).

Nope, it’ll be at your favorite retailers store shelves. BTW stay tuned for the pre-order offers we have lined up.

13

Pumapayam  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Since I can’t comment directly on a response, I’d like to thank Mark for answering my question, (Post #5).

I feel validated. . . :)

Thanks again for acknowledging this and look forward to more updates on LBP.

Hey,

Water beta already started in the UK. They had about a 1-2 week head start on us.

20

Wuggyboobeaufuf  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:27 pm

So what content was censored for this version, and which religion did you censor it for?

21

R1LEY62  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:32 pm

hi looking forward to lbp psp, but one question, can you give any hints about what kind of pre order bonus? PLEASE REPLY

22

DZORMAGEN  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:34 pm

When are we going to get the DISNEY DLC!! Come on it is long overdue!!! I am tried of this! You guys used to have a list on what DLCs were coming and we would have an idea weeks in advance. WE WANT ARE DISNEY DLC!!!!!!!! AND WE WANT IT NOW!!!!!!! :) THANK YOU!!

23

FoolKiller79  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Preorder bonuses? Stuffed Sackboy dolls? Sorry, I sound like a broken record.

Can you confirm if LBP on the PSP can install UMD data to the Memory Stick, like Gran Turismo does? That made a huge difference in load times and power consumption.

Mark Valledor's Avatar

Mark Valledor replied on October 2, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Yup, there is an initial install for LBP (PSP) too (about 12 MB for Play + Create goodness).

24

FoolKiller79  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:41 pm

Oh, and can we avoid having the best preorder bonuses at GameStop? My local store didn’t even know Gran Turismo had come out last night and then spent 30 minutes looking for my copy.

25

packy17  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:41 pm

FFVII DLC? I remember this being shown weeks before the game was released in ‘08… Alongside the MGS stuff. Is that still coming? Or is it limbo for some reason?

26

R1LEY62  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:42 pm

i have always kind of dreamed of a sackboy plushie or stuffed animal……….. but also maybe like special in game costumes!?

27

darthlego  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:43 pm

I want to know if the Playstation Store will have LBP PSP on the first day and if I would be missing out on anything if I did not buy the UMD (like pre-order bonuses).

28

KSPRAYDAD  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I’ll pick this up the minute P/C/S start working on the PS3 version.

29

darthlego  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:55 pm

@28

I had the game a day earlier then the release date and the P/C/S scores were working then. I can tell you that you are not missing out on anything by them not working.

30

darthlego  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Does the Watchmen DLC also mean that we will have both Marvel and DC DLC?

31

KSPRAYDAD  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:00 pm

@29….

It is the principal of the thing. I know the dev teams are not the same but still if MM had time to hand hold on the PSP version it also means they had time to fix a promised feature on the PS3 version from a year ago.

32

Elatis  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:10 pm

I’ll wait for the GoTY edition. I learned my lesson with the PS3 version.
I like LBP, but I have never seen a product so milked in the DLC area…EVER.

33

possumwilly  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:11 pm

How many MBs (or GIGs) of space is LittleBigPlanet for the PSP going to take? Will it fit onto a 1gig memory stick pro duo?

34

theofficeman  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Hey I was wondering if the Rorschach ink blot mask moves?

35

Carl-G  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Will ‘LBP(PS3):Game of the Year Edition’ be coming to Europe anytime soon? ;)

36

MassaBR  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:41 pm

I’ll wait for the GOTY edition of LBP PSP with free exclusive content.

37

CloudStorm87  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:47 pm

You should turn stories like Sean’s into actual TV spots to promote LBP (unless of course you’re already doing it.. I live in the UK sorry. We don’t see many PS3 ads here).

38

vistadreamer  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Mark, Sam The Protagonist on LittleBigWorkshop seems to indicate that the beta is rolling out at the same time across all regions. I am very confused! :( Here is the link: http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/lbp/board/message?board.id=pod&thread.id=90710 Thank you.

39

CRONIC_GAMER  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Seriosly what’s up with the play create share counter seriously can I get an explanation or even a date to it’s use ANYTHING !!!!!!

40

darthlego  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:01 pm

@31 LBP PSP is being developed by a different Sony studio (it is the Cambridge studio if I am not mistaken), but I agree with you, they should either remove P/C/S or get it to work instead of just having it there taking up space.

41

xeno3d  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:02 pm

Will the day 1 owners of the original LBP ever get access to the 18 bonus levels or do we really need to buy the GOTY edition?

42

darthlego  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:03 pm

Sorry about the last comment, I know that you know it is being done by different people, but I think that Mm has next to nothing to do with LBP PSP.

43

lowhonor  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:03 pm

im sick of your costume dlc. i don’t have to say it every week, but this is just getting out of hand.

psp lbp is the only saving grace of this post

44

xeno3d  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Is there a url for the step by step instructions on how to access the bonus levels online? I can;t find it on the workshop site

45

burnsideking24  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:33 pm

i was lookin for somethin about the new LBP update…..

46

Byozuma  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:45 pm

Not to dredge up old topics but what of past DLC for LittBigPlanet, like the spacesuit or Valentines pack? I purchased the GOTY Edition and was surprised to see that some of the limited run DLC packs weren’t included. It’s especially odd given how prominently the spacesuit is featured on the box sleeve and manual. I’m not asking for everything as some of the items are rightfully excluded, but those things that briefly appeared on PSN without the need of special codes should have been included.

Dhrox  |  October 2nd, 2009 at 3:49 pm

It’s a day 1 for sure.

I have a few questions…

Will there be any extra features for people who own the PS3 version? Something that only works with the PS3 version? For example will the people I hearted in the PS3 version and who have the PSP version appear on my hearted list on the PSP verion? Will there be anything else like it?

What’s the memory requirements and approximately how much memory does an average user-made level take? I’m really looking forward to downloading people’s levels and playing them on the bus or whenever I have some free time… I only have a 1GB memory card and I have some games on it so I’d like to know if I’ll have to invest in a new card before LBP PSP comes out…

On an LBP-related note, I know both games are made by different developers and Media Molecule is in charge of the PS3 version but will the Play.Create.Share. point ever work in the PS3 version? And is it being implemented into the PSP version?

Also, a while back there was something about Sackboy plushies and figures… what’s happening with that?

Finally, I love LittleBigPlanet, it is my favorite PS3 game and I’m looking forward to the PSP verion that I’ll be able to play anywhere. :]
