Hear Panda Bear Perform New Songs
Plus watch him do Animal Collective's "Daily Routine"
Animal Collective's Panda Bear just finished up a brief European tour, during which he offered a preview of his forthcoming solo album, rumored to be titled Tomboy. The blog Ramin Ton captured Panda Bear at Hebbel Am Ufer in Berlin on Friday night, and they report that his set consisted entirely of new material, save for a version of Animal Collective's "Daily Routine". (Via onethirtybpm.)
Ramin Tom have posted audio of the entire set, which can be downloaded here (and broken up into individual tracks here). They also point out a video which has popped up on YouTube, of Panda Bear performing "Daily Routine". Watch it below.
UPDATE: Gorilla Vs. Bear has posted a video from Panda Bear's show in Belgium, featuring two new songs. Watch that below as well.

Characteristically Freaky New Animal Collective Video: "Brother Sport"
This is a weird one, folks
It's hard to tell what, exactly, is going on in director Jack Kubizne's video for Animal Collective's "Brother Sport", our #23 track of 2009. At certain points, the hallucinatory clip is the story of two modern-primitive kids and a dog, who tear around a trailer park and stage a fingerpainting rave in a backwoods hut. At other points, it's a particularly acid-fried take on vintage 1970s Saturday morning cartoons. And for one particularly queasy stretch, it's a montage of multicolored black-lit eggs falling from the sky.
In other words, it's an Animal Collective video, and you're going to stop whatever you're doing and watch it right now.
Check it out below or at Pitchfork.tv.

Happy New Year! After a two week break, Pitchfork News is back in full swing for 2010. Of course, plenty of music news happened while we were out stuffing our faces with holiday meals/lying on the beach in the tropics/partying with Girl Talk (and his house!) on New Year's Eve. Here's a round up of some notable items, including news about Trent Reznor, Feist and Jeff Tweedy, Animal Collective's Deacon, T.I., Lil Wayne, Rivers Cuomo, Julian Casablancas, the Decemberists, Michael Jackson, Mos Def and Gorillaz, Real Estate and Woods, and many more.

Help Animal Collective's Josh Dibb Pay for a Trip to a Festival in Africa
Get a limited edition CD in return
Joshua Dibb, better known as part-time Animal Collective member Deakin (or Deacon), wants to go to Africa. He's been invited to play at the Festival in the Desert, which goes down January 7-9 in Essakane, Mali. The problem: The Festival in the Desert folks can't pay for Dibb's international travel. So Dibb has taken to the fundraising website Kickstarter, and he's asking fans to pledge money to support those expenses.

Animal Collective's Highly Anticipated Film to Premiere at Sundance 2010
It's called ODDSAC. Yep.
The years-in-the-making Animal Collective movie, directed by frequent collaborator Danny Perez, will finally debut at next year's Sundance Film Festival, which runs from January 21-31 in Utah. It's called ODDSAC.
Talking about the name of the film to us earlier this year, AC's Avey Tare said, "There's a few titles we're all psyched on, but it's a matter of finding out what sits right, what looks right in terms of putting it in the credits." So ODDSAC looks right in the credits, apparently.
Describing the movie, Tare continued: "The whole thing cohesively doesn't have one narrative; it's more of a visual or psychedelic thing. There are parts that are almost completely abstract, and there are parts that are little bit more live-action." So yeah, it's an Animal Collective movie, not Gone With the Wind.

Previously, we saw Tom Breihan on Girls' Album, Marc Hogan on Neon Indian's Psychic Chasms, Pitchfork Managing Editor Mark Richardson on Atlas Sound's Logos, Eric Harvey on Bear in Heaven's Beast Rest Forth Mouth, and Ian Cohen on 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct. This week, Richardson returns to talk about Animal Collective's BNM'ed new EP Fall Be Kind.

Panda Bear Discusses New Solo Album
Adjectives like "raw" and "dark" are thrown around.
In an interview with Pedestrian.tv, the man known as Panda Bear talked about his new solo album in a not-completely-concrete way. But still, new Panda Bear album info is new Panda Bear album info. And given that the Animal Collective member's last solo album was our ninth favorite album of the decade, we're excited.

New Animal Collective: "Graze"
Song from the Fall Be Kind EP
Front page photo by Atiba Jefferson
Animal Collective's Fall Be Kind EP is due out November 23 digitally and December 15 physically via Domino. It opens with "Graze", which can be heard below.
"Graze" is kind of two songs in one. It starts out as a mellow, diffuse vocal showcase. Then, about two-thirds of the way in, a perversely sped-up Renaissance Faire flute loop kicks in, and the track turns into a disarmingly weird hobbit dance jam.

Panda Bear Announces Solo Tour
Plus: Animal Collective Australian Tour
If you see Noah Lennox on a stage somewhere, chances are you're going to see the other Animal Collective guys standing next to him. Lennox, better known as Panda Bear, made Pitchfork's #9 album of the decade as a solo artist, but he only rarely plays solo shows, and he hardly ever tours by himself.
This January, though, Lennox will play three quick solo shows in Europe-- by his standards, a marathon trek. Before he plays those shows, he'll tour Australia and New Zealand with Animal Collective. All those dates are below.

Trippy New Animal Collective Video: "In the Flowers"
Check out the beautiful new video for Animal Collective's "In the Flowers", screening now over at the band's website. The Merriweather Post Pavilion track is set to haunting imagery of dancers, animation, song lyrics, a dude in makeup, and, of course, flowers. It was directed by Abigail Portner, sister of Dave "Avey Tare" Portner.
Thanks to Dylan Young for the heads-up!
