“When we announced that we were coming out with Family Table, Brooklyn restaurant owners came from all over the borough, excited to be a part of this project,” said Zully Rolan, chairwoman of Brooklyn Pride. “The unexpected and overwhelming response also made us rethink this project and how we want it to look.”
Along with the unexpected eagerness to donate recipes, restaurant owners also expressed some concern. Many are busy with the holidays right on top of us, and asked that we postpone the book until just after the new year, when they could not only use the boost in business, but would also have the time to put more love and care into their submissions.
We are now proud to announce that we have pulled in some star-power with a delicious recipe from Brooklyn’s own Food Network Star Daisy Martinez, along with an introduction letter from Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
“Family Table: Recipes from Brooklyn’s Best Gay-Owned and Gay-Friendly Restaurants will be something we can all be so proud of when we release it in February 2010,” continues Zully. “We want to make sure that we not only release this book for the community as a whole, but also as a push for our family restaurants that are aching in these hard economic times.” From drinks to main courses to desserts, the book will be a great collector’s item and holiday gift. It will be a lively book of recipes from all neighborhoods and traditions, chock full of photos and stories.
Because the new release date comes after the holidays, we have made the book available here on our website for pre-order. With your order, you can not only guarantee yourself a copy of the limited edition book, but Brooklyn Pride will also send you a gift card to present to your recipient.
“All the moneys from this book will go towards more programs and events for the LGBT community in Brooklyn,” adds Rolan. “And the best part is that these restaurants will really be stepping up by donating these recipes. It will also be a boost for the restaurants, we hope, encouraging people to come out and dine at these fantastic eateries.”
