Verizon Wireless iPhone Deal

US telecommunications provider Verizon Wireless will be selling the iPhone 4 and 5 on its networks from January 2011, reports said.

The news has been greeted warmly by Apple fans in the US, who for years have been stuck on AT&T Inc's network for iPhone coverage.

The exclusive iPhone contract with AT&T was set to end in January, Bloomberg news reported Tuesday night, citing unidentified sources in the Verizon camp.

Verizon Wirless is at the forefront of digital communications technology in the United States, currently building it's own 4G wireless network.

Later this year, Verizon was also expected to unveil deals with several other popular smartphone makers to carry their respective devices.

Massive growth in the use of smartphones for high volume data activity, like the downloading of music, videos and applications has put an increased strain on the AT&T network, creating iPhone user dismay.

Steve Jobs' Apple Inc. has sold some 50 million iPhone smartphone devices world wide since 2007, with the 4th generation iPhone released world wide last week.

Smartphone Will Kill the PC

Manhattan, New York- Thanks the roaring popularity of devices like the Apple iPhone, Google Nexus One, Blackberry, Palm Pre and other smartphone devices, the market for the intelligent cell phone is set to outstrip that of the PC in just two years, financial forecasts said.

Gartner Inc, a technology research firm in Stamford, Connecticut projected that sales of smarpthone devices would triple from 2008 levels.

Smartphones are headed towards that billion-unit category that handsets are in today,” Bloomberg Media quoted market researcher Jim McGregor as saying. “The smartphone is the billion-unit pot of gold that everyone wants.”

Since the launch of the Apple iPhone in 2007, the smartphone movement has hit fever pitch, with technology companies struggling to get on the smartphone bandwagon.

491.9 million smartphone units are set to be sold by 2012 from 139.3 million in 2008, while the PC market would expand to 443.1 million units from 290.8 million in the same period.

The way that people use the Internet will change dramatically with the rise of the smarpthone and fall of the PC, as users spend more time on social networking sites, applications and less time surfing web sites, meaning Internet media providers will have to rapidly adapt.

iPad on its way Apple assures

Manhattan, New York- Apple assures its fan boys and girls that it's highly anticipated iPad device is on its way, despite fears from investors and Apple enthusiasts production of the new Internet and entertainment based gizmo would be delayed.

Shares in Apple Inc on the New York Stock Exchange NASDAQ market surged Monday after Apple said it was on target for a world wide Apple iPad roll out on April 3 2010.

The excitement for the release of the Apple iPad is building with new stories such as this and a new advertisement campaign rolled out by Apple at the hugely watched Academy Awards Ceremony Apple iPad advertisement on Sunday March 8.

The Apple iPad will roll out to Apple stores April 3 2010, then the launch will go global like a big Hollywood blockbuster launch, with releases across Canada, wealthy EU nations, Japan and Australia by the end of the month.

Technology analysts said it was a relief to all for Apple to announce that stocks of the Apple iPad would be plentiful and available on time. Expectations are up to 5 or 6 million iPad units will be sold worked wide in the first year.

Many analysts are not however convinced Apple will be able to find a large enough market willing to pay for a tablet style computer system, with notebooks and networks still popular with millions. Dedicated eReaders like Amazon's Kindle are also popular, proving the iPad will be a marketing challenge for Apple Inc going forward.

The Apple iPad is also expected to put a lot of pressure on 3G wireless networks going forward, with smarpthones like the iPhone and Blackberry putting strain on networks in large, built up cities where such devices are commonly used like New York City.

Apple Sues HTC in Smarthone Wars

Apple is suing rival Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC over what it claims is a violation in its patented technology for the Apple iPhone.

Apple Inc claims HTC has infringed on 20 patents of various technologies owned by Apple Inc.

HTC technologies makes the Nexus One Android Smartphone for Google Inc, who are fast becoming a massive Californian rival of Apple.

The Apple HTC war declaration comes after a long running battle between the iPhone maker and Nokia, with that cell phone/smartphone maker accusing Apple of infringing on patents.

The news also comes after Kodak claimed smartphone makers such as Apple (iPhone) and Research in Motion (Blackberry) infringed on patents to do with smartphone digital camera technologies.

Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, hypocritically said: “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it.”

“We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Reports said HTC was shocked at the Apple Inc moves to declare war on its smartphone making processes, and executives said they were studying the Steve Jobs smartphone accusations.

HTC is considered a very innovative smartphone maker, and has many research and development projects that have contributed to the ever changing smarpthone market.

Smartphone Users Targets for Tech Savvy Muggers

Smartphone users are increasingly becoming targets for muggers in San Francisco, local media said.

Local authorities in the Bay Area are being warned to be discreet when using their Blackberry's and iPhones on public transport, with tech savvy crooks looking to take users smartphones forcibly.

"Groups of robbers are targeting people with iPhones and other smart phones," warned a local San Francisco police spokesman.

A number of smarpthone users have been targeted in recent days and weeks and the problems was on the increase dramatically.

"The crime scenario would be they see somebody texting, they're on the iPhone, smartphone, and the criminals want that. So they're going to work together and that person would be unaware that they're even being targeted. They're going to swoop in, grab it, and off they're going," the San Francisco spokesperson said.

Users of other expensive electronics devices, such as commuters using laptops and MP3 music players, were also the target of frequent muggings.

The San Francisco robbers were increasingly becoming tech savvy in the way they carried out their selected smartphone robberies.

The spokesperson said San Francisco smartphone robbers would liaise with other robbers using their own mobile phone cell phones to target smartphone victims.

"If you really need to text and its nighttime, go into a coffee shop or do something so you're not walking down the street and become victimized," Police Captain Barrett said.

The smartphones were of high value to the smartphone robbers, with sales of symphonies such as the iPhone lucrative on the black market and with online sales on sites like eBay.

Rootkits Create Smartphone Hacking Danger says study

Researchers and computer scientists say that the rise of malware known as ''rootkits'' could become a huge problem for smartphone users world wide, as the growth of the advanced cell phones continues.

With the rise in new smartphone operating software systems, hackers are quickly learning to find new ways to manipulate smartphones the same way personal computers have been manipulated in the past.

"Smart phones are essentially becoming regular computers," Vinod Ganapathy, assistant professor of computer science in Rutgers' School of Arts and Sciences said. "They run the same class of operating systems as desktop and laptop computers, so they are just as vulnerable to attack by malicious software, or 'malware.'"

Studying "rootkits'," a team of computer science professionals from Rutgers' University looked out how smartphone operating systems could be attacked in a way that smartphone users could have their every move, conversation and action followed.

WiFi, bluetooth, home networks and other systems leave all smartphone users vulnerable to attacks and hijackings, leaving personal information at high risk of exposure.

"What we're doing today is raising a warning flag," a researcher from Rutgers' computer science department said. "We're showing that people with general computer proficiency can create rootkit malware for smart phones. The next step is to work on defenses."

A series of test, to be demonstrated to experts at cellphone and mobile computing workshops in Maryland soon demonstrate how easy it is for smartphone users to have their devices hijacked and never know about it.

iPhone's are about to become a lot less risque, with Apple undertaking a big effort to crack down on applications of any adult nature.

Even bikini models were being deleted from the Apple iPhone Applications store, such is the drive by Californian based Apple to make the iPhone completely family friendly.

Application makers have been informed by the smartphone maker that any new iPhone apps that contained any "inappropriate material" would be removed by the Apple iPhone app team.
