Yesterday saw a great many PlayStation 3 owners unable to connect to the PlayStation Network, play certain games on their machines and even lose precious Trophy data due to an unforeseen bug which hit Sony's online service. IGN Games picked up on the fact that users were not able to connect to their online accounts via the PSN and in turn, were not able to play games such as Heavy Rain which requires a PSN connection. First with Dragon Age: Origins and then with Mass Effect 2, Electronic Arts threw in a couple of DLC extras for those who bought the game new. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 makes this a clear trend: EA is using downloadable and unlockable content as a carrot to entice gamers to buy new instead of used. Read More »

A tweet from Square Enix UK's community manager Mike Oldham confirms that the publisher will be releasing a 1.4GB playable demo of Just Cause 2 on March 4th. The demo will be arriving on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC (via Steam) and will apparently feature over 35 square miles of gameplay area. Read More »

The word from THQ this morning is that a brand-new demo of Darksiders has hit both Xbox 360 (Gold members only) and PlayStation 3. The game's been out on general release since earlier in the year, and has apparently shipped over 1.2 million copies to date. Read More »

Obsidian Entertainment's anticipated espionage RPG Alpha Protocol missed its originally scheduled October release date, and things didn't look good as we approached the rescheduled "spring 2010" launch without a word from the company.
