Harry Crane is the Head of Media at the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce advertising agency; he held the same post before leaving the original Sterling Cooper. His wife Jennifer, with whom he has one child, works at a phone company.
Harry's initial promotion comes when he proposes that the cosmetics client Belle Jolie sponsor a controversial episode of The Defenders. Although the company declines, Harry suggests to Roger Sterling that Sterling Cooper follow the lead of other agencies and establish a department devoted solely to television; Roger agrees and puts Harry in charge.
Harry has a one-night stand with Hildy, Pete's secretary, following the Nixon-Kennedy election. Though Jennifer kicks him out of the house for his infidelity, the two eventually reconcile.
